In short: Amazing organisation, scenery and value (on behalf of MattieS)
In full: MattieS says: This is my 2nd Bewl 15 run and the marshalling and organisation is even better than my last run.

The race is a challenge but just as I like it with plenty of marshals to show the way and copious amounts of bottled water and sports drink, sponges, jelly babies and slices of orange.

I did ask Albert for tea and coffee at the finish and, guess what, not only were they provided but free too. I love a cup of tea especially after a hard run. I did save some room for several small glasses of the free Harvey's beer. Shame we did not have the sunshine like last year to sit and relax and listen to the Brass band, while tucking into the cakes. My children adored the medal.

In short: Organisers pulled out all of the stops - despite the weather
In full: A thoroughly enjoyable race with an unusual mix of road, estate pathways, grass paths and wooded trails. A very pleasant change from the standard affair on roads. OK, it was muddy but with the right pair of trail shoes it was fun.

The free face painting and massage was most welcome. If the weather had been better there would have been a carnival atmosphere.

For improvement next year I would like to see caution road signs and a better stocked goody bag but remember, we had extra goodies to drink and eat at the finish.

I will be back next year, for certain

In short: The Hills were Alive with the Sound of Running
In full: Fantastic organisation with enthusiastic staff and many volunteers. I was prepared for hills but shaken by the intensity with a double dose of uphill work to complete each of the 2 laps.

Well worth the effort, though.

I compare the Sussex Marathon to Beachy Head but without the grass and sea-views!
The value of entry, technical T shirt and a vast quantity of bottled water, Gu sachets and Coke puts the Brighton Marathon to shame.

I will be back next year.

In short: One of my all time favourites let down by a serious lack of water
In full: Normally a fantastic opportunity to run part of the South Downs.Spolit by the water running out at the 2nd of only 2 water stations and at the finish. No water, I am told, was available for a collapsed runner at 7 1/2 miles.

Marshalling was adequately placed but lacked any enthusiasm.

Had 2 separate encounters with horse riders who expected to have the right of way and refused to stop or ride parallel, causing me and other runners to scatter.

Shame as it is otherwise a lovely race well worth £7. A first time runner was disappointed not to receive her first medal when she struggled to the finish.

In short: A classic race against nature and the elements
In full: A very special race and amongst the elite of races. The lack of water stops in the first 8 miles was a worry and crowding around the drinks table prevented a fast pick up of water cups. Small bottles of water would be better for this terrain as the cups lose too much water on transfer.

My only serious moan is twice marshals sent me the wrong way and three times I had to ask for the way, which were frustrating. Also many marshals did not give early warning of direction.BUT thanks for the dedication of marshals who had a long day ahead of them.

I now have the BHM bug and cannot wait for next year.

In short: Organisation is improving. Hill is a challenge but worthwhile
In full: It was good to see the organisation is improving but they still have much to learn. Simple improvement with a maximum effect is to coach the marshals to be more positive with directions and them to show enthusiasm. Water stop helpers should be trained, too, on efficient distribution and observation of the runners.

I applaud the marshalls and the water stops for their patience in waiting for the "back runners".

The Police and Cadet prescence is welcomed but would be better placed, in some instances, where their are more obvious dangers such as vehicles, public and adjoining roads or paths.

Despite all of this I would definitely be back next year.

In short: Almost flat course and easy to follow marshalled out and back route
In full: A fun event at an unususal time with a 7pm start immediately following the children's race. Excellent value at £19.50 for 3 races with a medal, plenty of water, prizes for race and category winners and enthusiastic marshals.

In short: You can't beat a quickish thrash along the Promenade
In full: Race is developing well and run by a very friendly club. Race start much improved this year. Free (donation to the local Hospice)for pre and post race massage very welcome and a nice touch. Marred in a tiny way by intransient Race Entry personnel who refused to transfer race numbers to other runners and cutting out a prize for 1st lady Vet 1 age 35 to 39. Will be back in 2009.
