In short: Wet and wild, but "mile" markers were out by - well - miles.
In full: I've done this race before in 2002 and 2008 and really enjoyed it. This year, I felt it lacked atmosphere, perhaps because of the rain before the start. Course was better than last year though - more varied with loads of water. Mile markers were way out however - my brother's Garmin made it 8.74 - with the last two "miles" measuring 1.4 and 1.5 - not what you need at that point! Lack of goody bag and crappy big cotton t-shirt also marked it down in my book - Hellrunner managed a better atmosphere, a more fun course and a great value goody bag with fitted girlie t-shirts.

In short: A bit disappointed
In full: Entered the Hardwick X-Stream because a previous race in August had such a great review on Runner's World. But the parking was a shambles, there weren't enough loos, the course was extremely challenging, there were no mile/km markers and just a tiny cup of water at the end.

On the plus side, the course was well marshalled by enthusiastic folk and the area was quite pretty. But neither of those things were quite enough to bring me over the line with a smile on my face.
