In short: Love the hills (up & down!) and the mud - the most fun I've had in a race in ages! In full: I knew this was hilly so just took part for 'fun' and REALLY enjoyed it. The marshalls were all friendly, despite standing in rain for ages, and 1 was giving out Jelly Babies - fab! I had so much fun striding out on the downhills I actually laughed out loud!!! Nice t-shirt & yummy cakes back at HQ Date of review: October 26, 2008
In short: Excellent race - slightly challenging 'bumpy' course but plenty of loos at start In full: My 4th time, as it's my local race - would be rude not to! The course is tough, but the views more that make up for it. There's enough runners and crowds to keep it interesting, but not too many to slow you down - I hope it doesn't get like Bath & Bristol and be too busy. It was well organised, and there were plenty of toilets at the start - didn't queue, which is amazing for a girl! Nearly a PB, and 6:13 quicker than last year - FAB!! :O) Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: PB for me, but not as fast as expected and they still can't get the organisation right. In full: I agree with previous comment, they should concentrate on getting the organisation and value for money right, rather than keep trying to get the numbers up. These big races start to alienate club runners and end up being a big fun run - if the club runners hadn't turned out in the first place the race would never have got off the ground!
And, definitely 'no comment' re the goody bag!!
I managed a massive PB though, but that was more about my running than the course.
One plus on the organisation side was the number of toilets, not often you can say that!
Still that old whinge that slow runners get in with the fast ones. There definitely should have been better orgaisation around that.
Not sure I'll bother next year..... Date of review: September 9, 2007
In short: FAB! Forget FLM...... In full: Loved the new route - please don't change it! Everything is just about right with this race - it's in a fab city, not too many running it but enough to keep you going, good organisation, friendly locals, and great marshalls etc (Ta very much!)
Everyone's complained about the wind, but I didn't notice it and it definitely didn't affect my time - a PB by 13 mins and ran 9 mins quicker than I thought I was capable of! So thanks to the pacers (nice addition, hope they're back in 2008) who got me through the first 15 easily so I could go on to my first ever negative split race :O)
The main problems I found were that some water stations were only on 1 side of the road, which meant people ran in front of each other to get to them, and someone had left lots of picnic benches along the seafront at one point, which got in the way of us lot bunched up behind the 3:45 pacers.
I love a weekend in Edinburgh, and I love this race. Can't wait for 2008 - I'd much rather do this than FLM Date of review: May 29, 2007
