In short: I haven't seen this many people in Eastgate Street for years. In full: Really enjoyed the finish and the atmosphere in town afterwards. I didn't mind the walk back to the racecourse for my bag, it was very pleasant and I had a massage when I got there. Great idea to fence off St Werburgh St for runners. No goody bag? Fine by me, a choice of Mars bar or Haribo and plenty of water after the finish was quite sufficient. I loved the "old" race, but it was time to move on, and it's been done very very well.

In short: The Orme! In full: The course makes this race, it's a beautiful route, even takes your mind off the long long climb of the Orme.
No queues for t shirts or medals this year, big improvement. My only gripe was spectators being allowed to stand just behind the finish line, very difficult for exhausted runners. A proper finish funnel would be the next improvement, perhaps incorporating a one way system to take people leaving the race off the quayside so they aren't walking through the finishers? In short: Last year was great, this was just brilliant! In full: A brilliantly organised experience, the facilities on the racecourse fully utilised to make it easy for everyone to have a great day. The start was pretty smooth, a mixture of good support on the course and a few quieter sections where you knew you were in a tough race. The final section along the river and into the racecourse was great, but the run in to the finish line was a real buzz. The organisers really pulled in a lot of groups and clubs to provide support, Tattenhall Runners operated the best water/motivation station I've ever seen, and you have to hand it to the MBNA staff who were helping out, facing an uncertain future they were totally professional. A lot of races fall apart after the finish, but polite pro active crew directed runners to where they needed to be so there was no wandering around or queuing for ages for a shirt or goody bag. I really didn't want to come home!

In short: You don't have to do a big-city marathon to get that winning feeling... In full: It was clear from soon after the race was announced that the organisers were serious about putting on a professional race, and they succeeded. I got the impression that they understood what runners want out of a race in terms of the whole experience and delivered it on the day. If they were to run this in April, I would have to think very hard about whether I did London or this one. Date of review: June 2, 2010

In short: Good enough for a first time running of the race; needs to improve In full: If they get all the things mentioned in the other reviews right, this race could become a classic. Perhaps don't run it on remembrance Sunday next time, that couldn't have helped the congestion in the town. An earlier start might help too. Date of review: November 8, 2009

In short: A race of two halves-definitely better after the Tunnel In full: I love the novelty of the this race, there is always a great atmosphere, my only gripe being the lack of a full set of km markers, would have been good to gauge pace through the tunnel. Date of review: May 31, 2009

In short: Great rural route, definite could-do-better on the Finish marshalling. In full: Terrific friendly atmosphere, a really scenic course, but marred for me by having only one marshal at the point where the course enters the field to begin the finishing lap, resulting in a collision between two tired girls at this point as the marshal was talking to two Police officers. No broken bones though, and on the whole a very enjoyable race. Date of review: April 19, 2009
