In short: Well organised and fast In full: Excellent facilities in the venue and flawless organisation - a real improvement on the last FCR race I did. Number collection easy and efficient and staff/volunteers friendly and helpful (again unlike last time) - well done and thanks to all concerned.
Almost perfect conditions on the day, a breeze in your face as you headed north but more than made up for by the it being behind you on the way back down. I took 3 minutes off my PB and was agonisingly close to a sub 1:20, many others I spoke to PB'd also. Certainly a very flat and fast course (although in driving rain and a strong wind it might be different).
Yes the route is a bit boring on the second lap, but personally I quite liked running along the seafront. The marshalls were encouraging although sadly very few spectators on most of the course (not sure what race the reviewer below ran today! :-))
Nice goody bag, and showers and a massage back in the Hilton. Fantastic day, will be back hopefully for another PB next year!

In short: Cracking race In full: First time I've run this and I'm glad I did! Excellent from start to finish - particularly loved the MC, the firework start, the superb encouragement from the marshals, and being warmed up afterwards by a bowl of hot pot in the club house for £1.50! Goody bag was err.. eccentric (in a good way), with great long sleeve tech t shirt.
This'll definitely be on the calender for next year.

In short: Superb, just superb In full: Glad to say that the couple of niggles from last year that stopped this from being the perfect race (late start, tedious trek round and round Sefton park) were well and truly resolved yesterday. Organisation was brilliant all round. Atmosphere amazing as ever, big thanks to the people of Liverpool for the support. The exit from the tunnel is something I'm not sure can be matched by any race, anywhere. The hill at 18 is definately a bit of a killer, but the fact that the first half is super fast and that you go back down the hill at 24 still makes it a reasonably quick course overall (I managed my first sub 3).
Had intended to try Chester next year, but Liverpool will now be an annual highlight of my race calender. Date of review: October 15, 2012

2012 Blackpool Hilton half Marathon - RACE FULL
 | | Overall score | | 60% | | Would you do it again? | | Maybe | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 80% | | Atmosphere | | 40% | | Organisation | | 40% | | Value | | 60% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 60% |
In short: Cheap and quick but a few irritating faults In full: Lets start with the positives. A predominantly flat course, definate PB potential and I shaved over a minute off mine. Good facilities at the Hilton, showers available at the end in the fitness club which was welcome (for a 2 quid donation to the Hilton Foundation, was was perfectly ok). Plenty of encouragement from the stewards on the way round.
Now the negatives. Collected my number 25 mins before the race, and they had run out of safety pins, leading to a scramble round to see if anyone had any spate. Not good enough. No goody bag (which i'm not that bothered about personally), and awful medal. Looked like it was an old left over from a different event with a sticker on it. No chip timing. In fact, was it timed at all?? I'm going to assume it had to be (surely????), but the timing clock at the end wasn't working. Just have to wait to see if the results appear I guess.
Overall, a decent race if you're after a PB but to call it 'no frills' is an understatement. Date of review: September 2, 2012

In short: Tough, but fantastic race. Very friendly atmosphere, and organisation, course, marshalling, facilities at start/finish and value for money all spot on. Date of review: May 1, 2011
