In short: good old fashioned no frills run. In full: Same course complaints every year. I wish the council would commit and close a few roads and drop the horrible twist and turns of the houses section. Could be so much better. However the rough and ready old fashioned feel brings me back every year. Date of review: September 13, 2014
In short: Needs to go back to basics. In full: The course tweaks were on the whole for the better. Marshals and supporters were brilliant. Ready made race village with good "buzz". However... The finish turned into an unpleasant bottleneck. The balance between charity fun run and race has been lost. There s no point in saying you changed the course to make it faster and doing nothing to encourage faster runners..very sparse at the front and didnt see any form of presentation etc.. Wont be coming back for a while Date of review: April 6, 2014
In short: Constant rolling hills, very scenic In full: Positives: The Route. quiet country lanes and a constant battle against an up or down or high wind (plenty of wind turbines around so im guessing its always a bit breezier than most places) all makes for a "challenging" run that doesn’t include clock watching. The Cake. Fine selection of snacks as you cross the finish line, far better than any bag of tut. Also good to see a tea van, just need a beer van now as well. The Trophies. Good to see some effort put into awarding the winners (including the age categories) they cost pennies but it’s a sign that as an organising group they know runners…we like trinkets.
Negatives. the last few 100metres, though there's plenty of space to straighten out the finish line for next year.
In short: misdirecting runners, inaccurate results, daft staggered start creating a no mans land at the front In full: Wonder what happenend to the elite kenyans....think they may have been sent on a detour as they started but did not finish. Little bit like the extended mini marathon. Results are a mess. The course itself is a little insipid, with an unpleasant 2 mile dogleg on the wind tunnel of the river for the finish. A ridiculous stagger was used between 'elite' and 'sub elite' resulting in a lonely run for the majority of the front runners. The rest of the field had the opposite with overcrowding and the usual silly people starting in the wrong place and being in the way. As a positive the weather was great for a post race picnic watching people finish. There are many local non profit races through the year do them instead. Date of review: October 3, 2013
In short: Quick but sterile course (though depends on the nottingham wind) well organised and popular In full: Its not the most inspiring course, the finishing 2 mile dog leg with wind blasting away makes it tougher than it should be for such a flat route. Results are a bit of a mess, e.g my chip time is 30 seconds off and my gun time is a good 2 mins off (i started at the front with no waiting to get across the line) . Not sure why they staggered the start it just created a big no mans land and was pointless. Nothing major wrong (though the dodgy results is annoying) and nothing amazing to shout about its just all a bit insipid. Date of review: September 30, 2013
In short: friendly atmosphere, "testing" route. In full: Dear Wolverhampton race organisers, please straighten out that section through the estate its horrible! thanks. Enjoyed everything else though...especially the beer truck at the end. Date of review: September 3, 2013
In short: Annoying number of switchbacks on the route but excellent support and refreshingly competitive at the sharp end. In full: The good: truly excellent crowd support for a road 10k along the entire route there was somebody cheering you on. Slick organisation with penned starts and a long finish funnel. Refreshingly competitive at the sharp end of the race. The Bad: Routes with switchbacks, seriously route planners stop it! If you must do it at least give us a decent turning circle. Us older runners have the turning circle of a barge at full pace. The not so sure: Garmins are always wrong if there's cover or excessive daft switchback/dog leg turns on route, but it really did "feel" a little over distance between the 9k marker to the finish. Though I am grasping at straws as I was 1sec off my pb and thought I had 20secs to spare as I went past the 9k marker.
