In short: A lovely variety of scenery and various terrain, but not what I had expected of a "Dirt Run".The amazing weather which was most welcome, certainly contributed to a lack of dirt! In full: Gorgeous weather conditions on the day certainly inspired a good feeling and added a spring to my step. A warm and well organised meeting place/race HQ was much appreciated. Although the flat surface of the towpath enabled me to settle into the race well, I was surprised that a large proportion of the event was alongside the canal and not more trail as the advertising of the "dirt run" suggested. Despite this, the off road parts were fabulous, offering a variety of scenery and terrain. There were plenty of well positioned marshalls and adequate water stops. Yummy jelly babies too! Thank you. I shall definitely be returning next year. Date of review: November 20, 2011

In short: Tough hills softened by the scenery. In full: A slow start (uphill) with some toughies throughout! However, the picturesque country lanes helped to alleviate the pain. What goes up must come down which made for a flying finish. Good t-shirt at the finish but unfortunately no other goodies. Date of review: November 7, 2010

In short: A refreshing and rewarding change from the conventional events. In full: The varied and unpredictable terrain ensured there was never an opportunity for boredom! Makes "normal" events seem extremely dull in comparison. In preparation for this event I had followed the instructions on a couple of training runs previously, which helped me enormously on the day. Alleviated having to stop and start. The only disappointing factor for me, was the finish. After the stunning scenery encountered on the run, the finish was on a less than salubrious public footpath. It was difficult to tell where the actual finishing line was and there was a notable absence of supporters - not even a clap or a well done. Seemed a shame to have such a soulless and non atmospheric ending. Date of review: September 13, 2010

In short: A varied, challenging, yet thoroughly picturesque course. In full: I applaud the local Rotary Club for organising this event to raise money for charity. However, for very little extra cost the organisation could have been vastly improved. Firstly, the toilet facilities were extremely inadequate. Pre race nerves and the effects of being well hydrated forced me to bravely join a long line of men amongst the bushes! Secondly, although frequently positioned, the water stations were a shambles. I had to stop at each three stations and wait for a minute amount of water. Frustratingly this added extra time to my race and interferred with my running stride. Positively though, I later drove around the course and must commend the organisers for their huge efforts in removing all plastic beakers and any other eveidence of a race having being held. Well done for returning the lovely countryside to its original state. Date of review: March 3, 2008
