In short: Fantastic! In full: Fantastic race, route, organisation, food, cider, cake and lots of aid stations and water. Cannot believe somebody has left a bad review of this event - but then again looking at their profile they have moaned about every race that they have done! Should stick to running on a treadmill and star at a wall! THis is a gem of a race and we will be back next year!!
In short: Depends on your definition of a trail event! In full: Let's be honest, I entered this event on the strength of much positivity from other runners. As it was only £20 to enter, with proceeds going to a very worthy cause, I did not expect a flash medal, a free T-shirt or all sorts of goodies at aid stations. However I did expect an event that has been running for quite a few years to be well marked out. It wasn't and I was lucky to run the last half with somebody local. I've never seen so many runners appearing from other directions saying that they were lost! The map was indecipherable as well.
I also expected a bit less tarmac and more "trails" than was on the route. Instead we ran mile after mile along busy A roads, crossed dual carriageway and ran around plenty of urban sprawl and housing estates! There were the occasional treats - Yew forest, a couple of cornfields, but really not what I would call a trail marathon. Date of review: August 10, 2015
In short: Superb! In full: A superb race that was well organised and provided excellent value for money. Tough on the feet due to the rock hard ground, a few nasty hills thrown in towards the end but excellent provision of water, sponges and energy drinks to keep you going! Only gripe was the poor showers afterwards. However would recommend to anyone who fancies a challenge and a good day out! Date of review: July 5, 2010
In short: A very well organised and friendly event. In full: A nice race, expertly organised especially as there were no road closures. Shame the ford was too deep but the sun even appeared for us towards the end. Oh, and a nice big hill to negotiate. many thaks to Crowborough runners! Date of review: November 29, 2009
In short: This race is great for the soul if not your muscles! In full: 26.2 miles ( as the crow flies ) of hills, mud, rain, mist, wind and pain and cramps in places I never knew! Expertly organised and having well placed marshalls who know exactly what to say at the right times makes all the difference. This race is already on my calender for next year and if you love running - find some hills, practice and come and join in a very special marathon. Date of review: October 25, 2009
In short: Fantastic 1/2 through some special scenery In full: Lovely race through some spectacular scenery, well worth the slog up the hills. Only have minor gripes: More toilets, confusion at start as half the field didn't know which way to face! and not sure about the "sandwich" bag instead of a t-shirt or medal. Otherwise well organised, friendly, encouraging and even the weather was perfect! Date of review: September 27, 2009
In short: Don't waste your money on this one!! In full: Over-priced, poorly organised, no clock, timings or chip for £30 entrance. Was even given the wrong medal at the end. Total rip off and there are plenty of other races in and around London that offer much much more. ASICS should be ashamed of themselves. Date of review: August 22, 2008
