In short: Lovely day - but over long, pacers way out of time, and why do we need an empty plastic bag...?
In full: I like Brighton half - I've done it the past 4 years, and this year the weather was beautiful - absolutely perfect sunshine, with a cool breeze. Great supporters most of the way around, and the volunteer helpers are always great - big thanks to them!

There were a few issues this year

1. definitely measured the course wrong - it was too long - not really a problem for me, as I don't time myself that much (I'm too slow to bother really!!), but understandably annoying for some.

2. I really like the medal here, but why oh why do we need an empty plastic bag? Well, not completely empty - mine came with one bit of paper offering 5 issues of Men's Running for £5 - but I'm a women, so what a waste of paper.

3. Information tent had an issue with getting numbers out to runners - quite a lot of numbers (inc my partners) hadn't arrived through the post - no idea why, but it meant that there was a huge queue of people trying to collect before the race started (you couldn't collect on saturday for some reason) - only two people in the tent to help out - and a real problem with blocking the pavements badly and meant some people started late

4. A personal point was that I ran for the official charity - but despite lots of Brighton supporters all the way around the course, I didn't see any of the official charity supporters! And although there were tents for a number of charities, I didn't see any for the official charity! Boo. If they were there at all, as the "official charity peeps" it'd be nice if they were somewhere they could be seen - I'd have killed for a cup of tea and a biscuit at the end!

But, all in all, despite this years niggles, I'll be back next year...and hoping the weather is as good again... :)

In short: Well organised, but tougher than it looks!
In full: Really well organised race. Congested start, but that probably can't be helped. Interesting through town, and then pretty through the countryside (save for when going over the M3!) A fair mix of speeds - speedy winners, but I came in at 2 hours 20, and there were still another 1000 behind me, so I didn't feel too bad. The organisers could have done without the bunch of minging male runners having a pee in the locals gardens though - there were loads of portaloos, so no need - and it just gives the rest of us runners a bad name!!

In short: Great race - Flatter route, but somehow I found it harder this year!!
In full: Done this one 3 times, and its always been well organised - and thankfully I haven't yet faced really bad weather! New, supposedly flatter route this year - got rid of the killer hill that was at mile 10-ish, but instead we have a really long 3 mile ish gentle (ish!) climb near the start. I was slower this year than before - but that could well be my training programme! (and the loud snorer in the room next door at the B&B...!)

In short: Sooo flat! Perfect.
In full: Really nice atmosphere with huge amounts of people, great charity tents (free coffee and snacks from the Macmillan one - I did fundraise for them!), nice racing goodies to buy before hand from a Nike tent, and a really really flat course - even the weather was nice, so it was pretty perfect. Having so many runners on the course is irritating, in that you have to weave through people at times, but the amount of people is also why it has such a good atmosphere, so you can't really complain. There were more than enough water stations, loads of people cheering as you ran, and the course even had toilet stops. Nice good bag, with a lovely medal. Nothing to complain about really.

In short: Hilly, but fun. Tea and cakes at the end!
In full: I loved this race, despite the hills (there is very little flat - you're running down hill or up hill really). Really simple, but well organised. Started in a field, ran up and down a few hills in the woods, finished (got a jaffa cake and a wooden medal), and went for tea, cake and a raffle! Fabulous. Really friendly marshalls too.

In short: ooooh that hurt!!
In full: My first half marathon after pregnancy - maybe I should have chosen more wisely! It is a beautiful course in terms of scenary, but there is a lot and a lot and a lot more of up hill trail running. But some runners did really well - winner around 1 hour 15. I was well far back, but made it round and am still alive.

In short: Dull, but Flat as a pancake!
In full: 2010 race. I've done a few races round this lake - it can be dull, but a good crowd makes it better - and we had that. Pacers this year, but I lost them early on. It is flat as a pancake, which is fabulous.

In short: Hilly but worth it
In full: Always like this race, even though I find it hard. Its always a slog for me, especially the 7k - 8k which includes a really mean steep hill (and although I ran all the way up it, feeling very pleased with myself, an organiser passed me on a bike looking fresh as a daisy - meanie!) A good crowd, well organised, and a really nice medal at the end. fab.
