In short: Huge Half Marathon, Well Organised and Very Well Supported - Great Tee and Gong In full: Great race, very well organised, really well marshalled and great support again.
Tee is really nice - really nice.
Only slight downside was the parking and the subsequent effect this had on the traffic. Planned to get there for just after 0900 but queued for half an hour on the road into Wilmslow. That said, the road marshalls and stewards were very helpful and they managed to point me to a side road. Would've gone for a post race massage but the prospect of walking back to the car for my money, then to the rugby ground and back to the car again was too much! Date of review: March 23, 2014
In short: Community spirited, professionally organised and executed race. In full: Starts and ends at the local primary school where the local PTA put on an excellent array of hot/cold refreshments incl. bacon butties. Number / chip collection was slick. Timing start pens. Great rural course, almost entirely on quiet country lanes, some decent vistas and smells of the countryside.
Changes this year: Chip times - lovely addition, just adds to the professionalism. Loved how you could print your gun time off at the end. Moving the finish line to the road was brilliant - the last 50m of the finish straight was my only criticism last year, it was narrow and there was the potential to trip on the legs of the barriers - all taken care of this year with a straight and wide final 200m to the finish. The "other" change - cotton finishers Tee - unlikely to be worn I'm afraid. Would never wear a cotton tee for training. Sorry... I'll be back regardless though
In short: Great course, terrific organisation. In full: Can't fault the race at all.
Organisation is terrific, I entered on the deadline and still received my number and pin through the post. Car parking was very straightforward and well organised, location is prime being a couple of minutes from the M62 and 5 mins from the M6. Start was prompt, course is well marshalled throughout. Love the finish, the last 400m is level and straight down the tree and spectator lined avenue. Date of review: August 18, 2013
In short: A community spirited, professionally organised, 10k country lane road race (in one sentence!)! In full: Excellent comms, extremely well organised - puts more expensive larger scale events to shame. Neat touches include: - car parking with well signed and marshalled routes to HQ - pin holes in the vest numbers - baggage drop - pre race safety brief from race director - friendly marshalls and supports in numerous supply - quiet and scenic country lanes - excellent snack menu (although the gentle waft of bacon butty as you're picking up your race number - bit unfair, surely no one can run on a bacon butty?)
One negative (but restricted by space) - narrow run-in for the finish, difficult to overtake in the final sprint. Date of review: March 4, 2013
In short: Lovely course predominantly through the countryside of South Warrington, well managed and supported, track / stadium finish. In full: Something in the course for everyone - uphill first half, downhill second half which either permits you to rest if you overcooked the first half, or put the hammer down. Water stations every 3 miles, well marshalled and well supported along the route but great support in the final 600m as you run back down the start avenue with supporters cheering you on from either side. Parking provision is pretty good, although you may have a long walk back to the car. Downside - lack of baggage claim (promised this year but didn't materialise) Plenty of people will cite cost as a downside - firstly I'm local so my travel costs are minimal, but they also offer a lifetime membership scheme which includes pre and post event activities. So if you don't like the cost but like the course, sign up. Date of review: September 9, 2012
In short: Great rural course on roads and undulating lanes. Great value. In full: You never know what the weather is going to do at this time of the year - it felt quite exposed in the windy and blustery conditions but this is the country. Many many positives for the race - comms, parking, bag drop, refreshments, marshalling, support, route, scenery etc.... Only comment for improvement would be organisation at the start line. Only observation for improvement Date of review: January 23, 2012
