In short: An example of how not to organise a race...
In full: I actually derived a grim sense of satisfaction watching the wheels come off this event. Just how many water stations does a 10K actually need and who decided to place toilets on the course especially such a narrow section...it would be nice to see the issues raised here addressed, but it appears to a perennial problem and the only way to get our message across is to complain through forums like this and not entering in the future. I for one will not be putting myself through it again and urging everyone I know to avoid this turkey of a race.

In short: Rename this the "Keep on the footpath 10K!" Nice medal.
In full: Despite having some early misgivings/ misconceived ideas about pounding the pavements and having to contend with dog walkers, pedestrians and cars trying to get into Leigh tip I was delighted with the exceptional level of marshalling for this race. There was great support all round the course and having the finish just past the cocklesheds was a welcome relief. Greatly appreciated the offer of jellybeans and hobnobs from the ladies on the (fairly lengthy) walk back to base. I also like the fact the finishers medal was unique to this race and not the usual trinket that gets handed out year after year. Well done to LOSS - a great day and great organisation (especially liked having the gents urinal within range of some of the more wayward shots from the golf driving range!).

In full: A very good race slightly tarnished by restricted access to Shoebury East Beach (Blackgate Road is never going to handle that amount of traffic, poor organisation at the start (it always helps if you test your klaxon/starters pistol) and a non existent PA system (although it was amusing to watch a man shouting to make himself heard over 1500 people).

Despite these minor glitches the support, marshalling and frequency of water stations around the course were fantastic. The course whilst a bit repetitive was much better than the last time I ran it as there was no confusion over which side of the road we were supposed to be on. I also achieved a PB so this made the race all the more worthwile. All in all a good day out and I look forward to going through all the same next year.

In short: Bluebells and cockleshells
In full: I must admit the advice on wearing trail shoes and looking out for tree roots had me slightly pensive about this race. However, the course consisted of a lovely jaunt through the woods and fields (not quite carpets of bluebells but still very nice). I nearly came to a bad end in the boggy section at the lower end of the course, but I was pleased with the two laps as you could enjoy the scenery all over again.

Well done to the organisers, marshalls and support around the course - you were all brilliant. The race entry fee was a real bargain and I look forward to comnig back next year!

In short: The sign in the sports hall said it all "If you cannot swim don't start this race".
In full: I have been reduced to a gibbering wreck...not sure where it all went wrong...possibly the water jump at the first stile and then the near miss as I slid into a barbed wire fence, I didn't think there could be so many different kinds of mud until I took part in this event, but having fallen four times I think am pretty familiar with Hadleigh Downs. Favourite moment was coming across the sign that said "Keep to footpath, crop field" but you couldnt see where the field ended and the footpath began. All in all a really good race and I look forward to coming back next year.

Well done Benfleet for great organisation and the superb support and encouragement from the Marshalls.

In short: The weather forecast said it was going to be mild.
In full: The photos from the event says it all. The gale force winds between 7-8km, the torrential rain, standing water on the roads and wet leaves everywhere. I loved it.

I am not so sure the runners who were led out to the start line 10 minutes before the front runners loved it as much. I heard nobody complaining about the conditions - mind you all I could hear was teeth chattering and the rain bucketing down.

A special thank you and well done to the Billericay marshalls around the course for all their support and encouragement. I look forward to next year!

In short: A really good race for the time of year
In full: The gentle inclines, slight breeze, and bright sunshine made this a pleasant February run. Mile markers were accurately placed and clearly visible which was a big help. The chip timing seemed to go very smoothly resulting in no queues at the finish.

A warm welcome at the end of the race from the friendly, helpful marshalls weilding bananas and beanie hats was a welcome change.

Probably need more portable toilets for future races - there were queues everywhere and some people were wandering up to the rail station to use the facilities, but otherwise a faultless operation. Well done to the organisers.

In short: A great Autumn run on rural roads without taxing hill climbs
In full: This was my second year running this course and achieved PB. The organisation was excellent and thanks for the pre-race warning about the flooded bridge. Traffic is always going to be an issue with this route, but the marshalls performed superbly and the locals seemed better informed. Good support all round the course. The goody bags were a marked improvement from last years t-shirt.

In short: Fast, flat and fun
In full: The strong headwind running out helped on the way back and the rain was nice and cooling so I achieved a PB.I think there are always issues with people lining up at the start not aware of the finish time bands but I doubt it will ever change. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable run.

In short: Good estuary views and small field of runners
In full: Despite having misgivings over the weather conditions (that Canvey wind) and running along the seawall (narrow, slippery and a few surprised dog walkers), I really enjoyed this run and achieved PB this year.

The support and policing around the course was great and having the local mayor handing out the finishers medals was a really nice touch.

The course was well marshalled except at the entrance to the school where you had one guy trying to direct traffic and runners at the same time. I narrowly missed getting run over!

Well done to the organisers and sponsors for putting on a excellent day.
