In short: What an experience!!
In full: I can't think of enough superlatives to describe this race.
The organisation was wonderful, considering there was so much that couldve been screwed up. The one gripe is that I was on the long running leg and there was a definate lack of marshals/signs telling me I was going the right way. Local knowledge wouldve shaved at least 2 mins off my 1.07 effort.
The scenery as I got to the top of the mountain that started my leg was exquisite. The sports massage at the changeovers was a nice touch.
Everyone was dead friendly to us.
We came into the event hoping for a top 100 finish, and ended up 7th, with our cycling really letting us down - still can't grumble though!
Its up there with the greatest events I've ever done, I'd say maybe the best.
Theyve thought of everything. The only thing that would stop me coming back next year is if I die in the meantime.

Great Event.

In short: Take it easy in the first few miles!
In full: This was a good race, 13 miles up and down hills in the portsmouth countryside. The organisation was good and the markings were easy to follow, only went wrong once and that was my own fault really.
It was fast at the front, winner ran sub 1.20, and the top 5 were well clear of the rest of us.
Definately not PB material - plenty of hills and fences. Luckily for about 11 miles I was running in a pack with 2 locals who warned me when the hills were coming!
Jelly babies at the water stations, which were excellently positioned, were a nice touch. Dead friendly and good encouragement from the marshalls too.
Hard without being sadistic, but if you go too fast too early youre going to die a horrible, horrible death later on. This is mainly due to the fact it is hard to get into a rhythm. I had done a steeplechase the day before, and had a bit of a head cold and thus mildly dehydrated, and could really feel it in my hamstrings up some of those hills!
In the end was chuffed with 6th - if I dont get re-posted because of work I'll definately do this next year

In short: Great run, very friendly, good organisation
In full: Great race, fanastically organised. There was a complex course which would have been easy to screw up, but the organisers put literally hundreds of distance markers out. Friendly atmosphere, great prizes, medal for every runner - I'll be back!

In short: Horrific but excellent
In full: Excellent organisation, great atmosphere, friendly organisers, friendly competitors. the course itself is a series of 3 or 4 hils, the last one was horrific. They say you should add 40% onto your PB and i think thats fair.
The one minor gripe i'd have is the price - but if its what you have to pay to experience this then fine!
Really great, worth going to bed early on NYE for?

In short: Muddy Brilliant!
In full: What a fantastic race. Ive never done anything to rival this in more than 10 years of racing. It was incredibly hard, and just when you think youve got to the end the crowd-lined 'bog of doom' is there to totally destroy your morale. By that point though you're so tired, upset and distressed you really dont care. Do this race before you die, simple as.

In short: Very Good Race
In full: Did this last year and have to say the whole thing was top notch. Great brass band, good prizes (including innocent smoothie hampers) and good support. The course is hard but the soft woodland paths mean not too punishing on youre limbs. Theres a stone wall which you definately shouldnt hurdle 3/4 of the way round round each lap, and a pretty nasty little hill too.
If you get the chance definately do this, you wont regret it!!!

In short: Killer Hill!
In full: This was a good race, with an average standard of runners, started at a nigh on suicidal pace, with a field of about 200. Great scenery, and a monster hill, gradual on the up for about 2 miles, and then shoots you back down in about 3/4 of a mile. Starts and finishes at a country fayre, great idea, as support was great, and possibility of a hog roast within 5 mins of finish! everyone was dead friendly, good facilities, in all, a really good event, even though it was hard i'd encourage beginners to do it just because of the atmosphere; in short, a credit to the organisers. Was a lovely day as well. The one thing I would say - and this is a personal thing I spose - is I didnt, and I dont really agree with booze as a winners prize!
