In short: Much much better than 2010
In full: I ran this in 2010, the organisation was chaotic, but the Great Run guys know their stuff, they seemed to have listened to people's gripes from last year and organised a superb race this time. None of the problems of last time at the start or finish.

Hills from 10-12 miles are tough and will slow down anyone looking for a PB, that said, i managed a very quick first 8 miles, so despite slowing down, i still beat my PB by just under a minute to come home in 01:48:38, all in all very pleased and a very special day, thanks to the Great Run team.

In short: Enjoyable Run, chaotic start
In full: I enjoyed the race itself as i got a new PB. At 08:45 i attempted to make my way to my pen (blue) from centenary sqaure having to the warm up, i couldn't get anywhere near my start pen due to crowds of runners and spectators on broad st, runners were understandably jumping the barriers to get to the start line as it was now 08:58, i saw a gap and ended up starting in the green positions. As soon as i crossed the start line, we came to a grounding halt as everyone tried to squeeze through a tiny space.

Other than this, i enjoyed the route, big shout to the lady on Lincoln Road (just before 10 mile marker) blasting out dance tunes on her lawn, made me smile.

Luckily i didn't get caught up in the finish line problems but i would have been mightly peed off if i had.

I'd do it again as it's my home city but the organisers really need to think about the start/finish area more carefully, why not open up both sides of broad street??

In short: Tough start, fast finish
In full: We parked in a car park a couple of miles from the start and had to get the shuttle bus to the start, this service was fine with no hiccups, the start seemed well organised with minimal queueing for toilets.

Once the race starts it's quite a crammed start with not much room on the narrow forest trails, this started to space out after a mile or two though, the first nine miles of the race were quite a climb with a particularly tough winding hill on the 5th mile.

There was then a tough steep but short hill on 9 mile which once at the top, it was all pretty much down hill from there to the finish. There was a very sharp downhill just before the 12 mile marker which was tough but overall a very fast finish to the race.

We received a medal and the finish, and some free Ribena and sweets, a good atmosphere on a nice day in the forest made this a very pleasurable run.
