In short: Picturesque hilly half - perfect In full: What a fantastic race, my first Eyam half and the hills don't disapoint. An amazing start around the picturesque village of Eyam then a massive climb to worthy views across the peaks - the scenary just keeps you going. The hills are brilliantly challenging but also a good 5-10 mile of rolling hills before the big incline. Support was briliant so were the many water stations, very friendly and recommended. Runner's don't do this for the PB they do it for the challenge - brilliant race. Back next year hopefully Date of review: May 19, 2013

In short: Brilliant scenary fantastic course In full: Brilliant course, all flat or downhill, hard to keep the pace sometimes due to flatness. Came in 0.10 short but so have other halfs I have done. Lovely marshalling and organisation and the views - just stunning. Nice to just run it sometimes running on my own. Only little quirk for me was at the end 400m before the finish people using the trail and not moving out of the way when I had tried to speed up a bit, part from that the most perfect race I have done. In short: if you can't see the arrow markers the options is down the road In full: What a great event - loved it, swift organisation, great route markers, fantastic checkpoints - plenty of water and jelly babies such a variety of up and down hill (it's only a hill) even the congestion at the start didn't matter. I could hardly fault it apart from the little road round the roundabout start which I didn't quite get. My garmin came in at 18.4 miles rather than 18 miles but heck who cares? Quite like the t shirt its different and a techy one at that. Date of review: August 19, 2012

In short: Good race for a litlte local half In full: Good race, PB'ed on it, full of club runners, 2 laps didn't seem that bad, undulating which made the course much more interesting, the hill(s) were slopes really. Only shame was the goodie bag, no munchies / waterTook me 10 seconds to find the water at the end of the race. Race results up quite fast on the wall straight after the race. Not cheap £20 on the day but a great course and some really friendly runners, found marshalls really friendly too. Would do it again. Date of review: March 21, 2011

In short: Great friendly race loved it In full: really enjoyed this 9 mile race - odd distance but just enough to get puffing and panting especially up the three hills, and I say three due to the incline at the end that took me by surprise. Really friendly runners and stewards, could have done with warning 10 secs before the start as was a bit chaotic at first but that always happends with races, race review and some daft photos on my website - Runmoor. Would do it again and exceeded my expected time as well. Date of review: March 6, 2011

In short: Great flat race with a fab goodie bag In full: 30th Oct presented this as a spooky 10k sprint. It took place at the lake so was completely flat -potential PB however the flatness actually hindered my time as its easy to get into a plateo with the running however nice and easy. Running through the woods bit was funny in the dark with the head torches and it was great to see a sea of light from one side of the lake to all those runners behind me. The goodies were great - runners world mag, head torch to keep, great spooky t shirt, pin badge and pen, and ample bananas and water afterwards. Very slick organisation including picking up a ticket with the chip and gun time. Enjoyed the commentary at lap 1 and at the end shouting out numbers, names and where people were from. My only gripe was the flatness! Yes really - no pb but happy with time. Date of review: October 30, 2010

2010 BUPA Great North Run

In short: Brilliant atmosphere nothing would beat this In full: My second GNR and I would do it all over again, its something special, for the amount of people who are doing it. People don't run this to get Pb's due to so many people (although I beat last years' time)but for the shear atmosphere, enjoyment and crowd support as well as the iconic meaning of this race. There is nothing like standing ready to run with 55000 other runners at the start, and hitting South Shields a few hours later. Bupa do a great job of organising, water stops, poweraid etc. Only complaint is amount of loo's at the start. Getting back to Newcastle was a nightmare (metro) but bused it last year and same problems - but what do you expect with 55000 people? If there is any half marathon that people do - do this one as its just "special". Running for a charity made it even more special. Everyone has their own story and that's what's so great about it. I now want to see what time I would get for a half marathon that isn't busy.... Date of review: September 20, 2010

2010 Asics British 10K London Run
 | | Overall score | | 60% | | Would you do it again? | | Maybe | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 60% | | PB potential | | 80% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 60% | | Value | | 40% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 100% |
In short: huge event, very flat, but no waves at beginning, plenty of water, goodie bag a bit disappointing though In full: Just completed my first street london run. 25000 other runners really does justify waves, come on Ascis if Bupa can do it so can you! Annoying that the slower runners are up there at the front, not that I am speedy fast but it took well into embankment 2.5k to get a clear pace going. Plenty of water but volunteers please take the tops off for us runners! A very busy race and quite expensive. Why did they send the tshirts out before? // why did we have to pay to be chipped?
Baggage area very good. A bit chaotic after the run no one really handing out water / sports drinks. A good run though for a flat course, recommended for those that want a good busy atmosphere and a good 10k for beginners - but not really a PB course due to congestion - sort that out and it could be a really good fast run. Please! Disappointed with the music - coldplay?? could we have something more uplifting? Enjoyed it though if just for the atmosphere. Date of review: July 11, 2010
