In short: A nice fast 20 miler around the Essex countryside. In full: A well organised 20 miler and an ideal warm up for anyone running London, Brighton or another Spring marathon.
Although it's not run on closed roads, it's very, very quiet, but as always you will always get the odd idiot who doesn't really respect the runners and slow down. :-(
That aside, there's always people dotted about to cheer you on and get you round.
The course is 2x 9.5 mile loops with a 1/2 mile stretch between the start/finish and the loops and it's all flat, bar the gentle hill to the finish so it offers plenty of PB potential.
Would definitely recommend this one and I'm looking forward to next year already! Date of review: March 7, 2011

In short: If you like hard work and lots of puddles of mud, this is for you. In full: 2nd time I've done this now, and this year was every bit as good as last year.
The course is pretty flat for the most part, although there is a hard climb about 5.5 miles in.
The toughest section covers about 2 miles and is generally thick mud and large boggy, puddles of mud! It's very hard work and you can easily lose lots of time here if you don't watch out.
Once the mud is out the way, you've got about 4.5/5 miles of generally flat ground, albeit a bit boggy in places back to the finish.
If you've overdone it in the downs, the last stretch will go on for ages!
The course is well marshalled and the spectators are always cheering you on.
The only downer is the cold showers at the end, but by then you don't really care. :D
I would definitely recommend you give it a try at least once. Date of review: January 23, 2011

In short: A great little 10k run with a reasonable PB opportunity In full: Having ran this last year I was keen to see that the concerns raised last year had been addressed and I wasn't disappointed!
A much more organised affair this year.
Moving the start really helped so that everybody wasn't bunched up by the pub.
The traffic from last year was non-existant, although there was one car on the course which probably parked in the harbour early and wanted to get out. Thankfully they drove with patience.
A great goodie bag this year with not only a medal and a bottle of Adnams, but some crisps, banana, water, bar-runner, coaster and Percy Pigs!
Steve Cram came this year so it was good to run against an Olympian! A great chap who had plenty of time for everyone.
As I mentioned last year, this can only get better as the years go by, and I suspect it won't be long before 1000 or more people will be running round.
Well done to everyone at Adnams for their hard work.
See you next year! Date of review: November 21, 2010

2010 Run to the Beat Half-Marathon

In short: A nice course, great for a first 13miler In full: An opportunity came up to grab a place in this race so I took it.
Getting to the event was tricky due to London Underground engineering works over-running and only 1 way in, but thankfully the organisers postponed the race for 45mins to allow people to get there.
Sadly the weather wasn't with us, but that didn't dampen our spirits.
The organisation was sufficent, but the toilet area was a little chaotic and queue jumping was rife. :-/
The route was well marshalled and took in plenty of Greenwich.
I was disappointed with the music aspect of the run, particularly as this was what appeared to be the driving force behind the run! There were a couple of live acts, but the rest was a few vans dotted about with some speakers and I definitely didn't feel empowered to run any faster at any point round the route.
I was presented with a nice medal at the finish, but the other goodies were energy bars and smellies in big boxes and no bags to carry anything. Needless to say, it was sad to see some runners walking off with entire boxes of stuff which meant that runners coming in late were probably going to be short-changed.
Overall, it was a good run, but I felt let down that the hype surrounding the music around the route failed to deliver and if I had taken my iPod I would have probably got more from that! Date of review: October 19, 2010

2010 Bewl 15
 | | Overall score | | 100% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 40% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 100% | | Value | | 100% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 60% |
In short: If you want a tough, mix-terrain 15miler, this is right up your street! In full: An excellent run race around Bewl Water.
The course is mixed terain with a couple of stiles, but the majority is on pathways. It's been bone dry lately so the ground is very hard. If it rained for a period of time, this course would be even more challenging.
The final hills are very demanding, and the remainer is quite undulating. Definitely not a course for a PB.
The course was well marshalled and there were frequent water stops along with Lucazade and sponges. Even some Jelly Babies at 2 points!
There were plenty of people to cheer you in and the club had also organised some entertainment and a vast selection of cakes.
Overall a fabulous race. It's a hard course, but if you can run up the hills at the end you'll get a real sense of acheivement.
I'll definitely be doing this one again.
Well done to all those that made today possible. Date of review: July 4, 2010

In short: If you love a mud bath, this is the run for you! In full: A very challenging 15 mile event.
Well organsised and well marshalled.
The mid section of the course is extremely taxing and I found it very slippy in trainers, but it wasn't impossible. I suspect trail shoes were the order of the day if the truth be told!
The main thing was I had fun despite the conditions and will return next year. Date of review: January 25, 2010

2009 Adnams First 10K

In short: Well organised given it was the first time it was run. Nice course and it has potential for PB's. In full: A decent course if you don't mind doing a couple of laps!
The start was a little cramped, but they were initially only expecting 300 entrants.
It was a shame the roads weren't free of traffic as planned, but I think everyone coped ok and the traffic was pretty light.
The marshalls did a great job and I hope everyone had a good time. I did, but then I got back just before the rain came!!
It can only get bigger and better as the years go on and I hope they do make this a yearly event. Date of review: November 22, 2009
