In short: "Challenge" is the right word! In full: What a great race!
The course is exactly as described: hilly, tough and glorious. The ups and downs must be balanced, as the race starts and finishes in the same place, but there were times when I thought the ups would never end...
I was really impressed to see so many "new" runners taking up the challenge of this race and, with a 2 hour time limit, it's certainly beginner friendly. The sense of achievement at the end was palpable and the cup of REAL ale a perfect treat. The marshals and water-stations were well-timed and friendly.
Thank you so much to the organisers: I loved it! Date of review: June 30, 2013
In short: LOVE this race! In full: Everything about this race was perfect: lovely mixture of runners; fab goody-bag; less running than I'd planned to do!
Seriously, I've never finished a race where someone with some sort of GPS hasn't said something like, "It was 4 metres short," or, "It was half an inch long," or some such twaddle, so let's get over it, eh?!
Yes it's nice to have comparative times, but let's get a sense of proportion. None of us are going to set any world records, so we run for fun (however seriously we take it). Yesterday's race was well-organised, friendly and a good giggle.
Well done Bracknell Forest Runners for having enough VOLUNTEERS to put on a super race.
In short: Bog-snorkeling bonus! In full: What a great morning! The rain, which had been torrential, held off and this was, again, a fab race.
It's a Very Tough road race: all up hill for the first couple of miles; undulating with some sharp ups and downs for the next 9; down down down for the final two.
The atmosphere was great today, as we were all joined by our insanity to run such a toughie in what looked like would be torrential rain. The marshals were extremely encouraging and chirpy, considering they'd been out in the rain for hours.
The course was flooded in places, but only to just below my knees (I'm not very tall) and was a good giggle.
Thanks Striders for a great race! Date of review: November 4, 2012
In short: Flat and inoffensive! In full: Not bad for a "lap" half marathon (the lap repeats miles 2-6 ish as 7-10 ish!), and the flat course definitely has pb potential.
The marshalls were friendly and cheerful and there was a great spread of people around the course: some awesome cheering by youngsters!
It's a shame that so many runners were wearing headphones, as I witnessed several near-misses as swerving runners hadn't realised that others were behind them. Besides which, in what was a mixed and friendly field, they missed out on the banter and encouragement given by other runners!
A nice race which I may do again, but it's not a classic. Date of review: September 16, 2012
