In short: A Race ....... Not a run
In full: The English Half Marathon Championships - Time Limit 2Hrs 35 minutes. My first WHM. Perfect conditions for a fast race, but unfortunately I started too far back not wanting to get in the way of the faster runners. If only that were the case, too many people talking a good race instead of getting on with it! People running in two's & three's across the narrow lanes, swaying back and forth listening to iPods and Gizmo's. I Spent the whole race overtaking! Anyway rant over... The marshalls were excellent throughout, the warm support from the spectators was well received, the goodie bag was great and I did manage a PB by 2minutes. I'll be back! (and be standing nearer the front) ps. Question: How many races have you done where they give out bottled water during the race? In the last twelve months, (25 races) just one and the water was from the sponsors. Buy a water bottle and put whatever you want in it.

In short: Great Race in a Great City!
In full: First time racer at this one. Managed to grab a late entry. Great atmosphere at the start, good organisation throughout.
Got near the front of the second wave, nice steady pace for the first 5k then hammer down for the second 5k. Got swept along with the cheering crowds and beat my PB by 1.28 (49.25).
I'll be back! Well done Manchester!

In short: Great Race for a Great Cause
In full: Undulating yet suprisingly quick race on a sunnny blustery day. The 1200 field meant constant overtaking, which kept my pace up and somehow I knocked 2 minutes off my PB.
Friendly marshals and plenty of support. Great T-shirt to! (although I wouldn't want the same one every year)

In short: At least it wasn't raining!
In full: 1st attempt at this race. Lots of difficult terain criss-crossing the course. Deep mud in places, woodland section, testing inclines and a killer of a field towards the end. A great test overall. The Marshals were excellent and were very encouraging even for me at the back!

In full: This was my 2nd attempt at the Winter Warmer. (Last year being my first ever 10k.) The big hill after the 1stK is really challenging. The marshalls are friendly and encouraging and keep you going to best bit... coming down the hills. Nocked 14 minutes off last years time despite missing the turn at the top!
