In short: Decent fast flat course In full: A fast flat course along sea front with a good mix of abilities/speeds. This is my third Fylde Coast running event, and I travel a 260 mile round trip to attend. The water stations were erratic. Although in the runners instructions it stated water was available at 3,6,9 miles and at finish, it was actually at 5, 7 and 10 miles. This is important to most runners to know when to take water on board, and I would have thought most runners plan accordingly. When I asked the water marshals at 5 miles I was told everything was in order. I asked when the next station would be, and I was told Gynn Square- which meant nothing to me in terms of distance. When I asked how far, they didn't know. Unacceptable really.
The announcements at the start of the race are a complete waste of time. Nobody can hear them. Would it not be possible to use a mega phone or PA system. The safety car that told runners to keep to the left to let the fast runners through could have been utilised for this. I would also have thought the Hilton could have helped out with a PA system. I realise the run is for charity, but I fail to see what Hilton actually contribute as sponsor, with just random water and a medal given to runners. Goody bags are not why we run, but a bottle of water and a medal appears a bit tight, considering it is meant to have such a large corporate sponsor.

2012 23rd Great North West Half Marathon * Runnner's World pacing race with pacers 7 to 12 minute miling*

In full: Most things have been said really. Parking wasn't good, toilets weren't enough. People trying to use the Hilton were rudely turned away and told to use the outside portaloos, even though the queues were so long you would miss the start of the race.I couldn't quite believe the goody bag - decent medal but the rest??? Strange socks?? Not running socks. For what is one the most expensive halfs I've done in the UK this was disappointing. We all know the goody bag is not why we do races, but even so, especially with the price, I expected more. I appreciate chip timing increases costs, but it's not like there's the cost of road closures, and I thought we had the prestigious support of Hilton Hotel. One other gripe, as someone who travelled 140 miles to attend- couldn't the race number and chip be sent out in advance? I sent a SAE for this, but still had to collect on race day, which isn't ideal. And placing race results on the door of the registration office- people seemed very offended that others needed to get in and out whilst they were perusing the results. Date of review: March 2, 2012

In short: Challenging undulating course In full: A very difficult race for me on what was probably the hottest day of the year. A varied course with some really testing hilly bits.Marshalls were friendly and encouraging. I agree with much of Supertomo's comments. The lack of cups at the first water station was very disappointing and worrying on such a hot day. Date of review: May 11, 2008
