In short: I saw the monster, honest ! In full: Hearing tales of the long bus ride, I was fearing the worst, but it all ran absolutely superbly. Especially as our bus had a loo on it ! A top Lemur Tip from me. Get on a comfy coach with a lav. As the first bit is downhill, I found it hard not to clatter off at top pace and regretted it towards the end . It ended up being the hardest marathon I've ever don, but if I'd slowed myeself down at the start, it probably wouldn't have been too bad. Amazing organisation. Superb marshalls. Brilliant spectators. And getting a text with your time as soon as you cross the line...We have arrived in the 2q1st century, ladies and gentlemen ! One thing. I stayed to watch the prize giving and no way was the lady who won the over 50's, over 50 :-) It's a long way to go, but I'd really recommend this race to anyone. Inverness is a lovely city as well. In short: Curate's egg In full: Nice countryside (though not as nice as the Trionium), gratt marshalling. However, all the loos ran out of paper at the start (THANK YOU TO THE NICE LADY WITH THE TISSUES), that could have meant I couldn't even start ! Also, we were lining up, 1 minute from the start and the announcer said "if you think you might be faster, you mught like to get tothe front". 1) what does "think you might be fast mean? 2) if you think you are fast, how do you climb over 200 people in one minute to get to the start ? Next time, how about streaming people ? I spent the first 50 minutes stuck behind slower runners on skinny paths, which was a shame. If I'd taken the vague advice and scrambled to the front, it might have been me holding others up ! Nevertheless, it's a nice course - challenging, good markers and superb marshalling. One of the best metals and tee shirt as well ! I feel a bit mean for the aforementioned gripes, but it did detract a bit from a lovely day out. Date of review: October 18, 2012

In short: The Best Race I've ever done In full: The previous reviewer said it all, so I'll bve a bit lazier (I am tired after all). Amazing organisation, ultra friendly event, the route was glorious, how did they get that weather??? 6 weeks of pouring rain, then one day of glorious sunshine ! The route was pretty muddy, but never im[assable and, if I'm honest, a welcome excuse to walk a bit. Very very hilly and a real challenge. This one took real true grit to complete. The end, where I ran up the finishing straight of BrightonRacecourse, with everyone cheering me was very emotional. The only criticism is that I can't imagine what to do next ! Can anything compare to this experience? It's a massive task - took me 14 1/2 hours, but what a feeling. I ache everywhere. Your friends will look at you like you're a nutter (or a hero!). Only wish I'd taken more pics on my mobile. Date of review: May 14, 2012

In short: Superb - a real "event" In full: Third BM was again a well organised and very friendly event. The volunteers were all v cheery and there was masses of support from the masses. I thought the water pouches were a great idea. A couple of squirts straight down your throat. The one gripe - MUST GET MORE LOOS at the start !! I did London as well last year and - hear this - BRIGHTON IS BETTER ! Even down to the superb quality and well-designed tee shirt, rather than the one-size cheapo effort from the London. Do this marathon; you'll love it. Date of review: April 16, 2012

In short: Highlight of the running year In full: Superb organisation, beautiful scenery and friendly atmosphere make this the race of the year (closely followed by Brighton). It is a tough race, not just the hills, but very challenging underfoot. And the 10k cutoff time, makes pacing yourself very hard ! I'll be back ! Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: Lovely course, even in the pouring rain and cold In full: OK, so this review is very late and I'm biased because our lass did a PB, but I have to say that if you're looking for a run in London in great scenery, with happy and efficient marshalling and good organisation, then look no further. We'll definitely do another. A friend did this as her first race and LOVED it. Only gripe...Why start early. Superb. Well done Date of review: September 21, 2011

In short: Does NOT do what it says on the tin ! In full: If they can't even get the distance right..... My Garmin measured 9.7km and I had to do another 550m as I was going for a PB (9 secs...off...ah...). When I challenged the guy who was doing the announcements, he told me to get my Garmin checked ! Then went on to say "don't be too hard on us on the internet". I felt a bit bad, as I was grumbling to the organisers and my apologies to anyone if I got on their nerves (I was the skinny guy in orange if you want to slam me). There are so many superbly organised races these days (check the Run Richmond Park series) that these guys have got to pull their socks up. Especially as I understand the course was 500m short last year. Date of review: September 18, 2011

In short: I guarantee you won't do it only once ! In full: A really suberb marathon, with extraordinary spectator support, which really makes all the difference. Organisation is great. Route is superb, with the very notable exception of the dreaded power station zone, although this year I was expecting it and there were some very kind souls who'd trekked out to applaud. Fantastic cammeraderie. Do it. Date of review: April 12, 2011

In short: Superb scenery, Fantastic atmos, Great Marshalling, HILLS, ROOTS, STONES.... In full: Well, they said that it was hilly, but this is ridiculous ! No flat bits at all. So how come it was the nicest race I've ever entered? Superb scenery, really friendly, excellent marshalling (Thank you, guys and gals). I hadn't thought that the hills might be so treacherous and Gawd knows how I didn't take a tumble following Kamikaze Lucy down some of the slopes. As we came to the finish line, everyone was cheering and what a rise ! The best. I'm off to bed now. Date of review: October 17, 2010

In short: The crowds were superb! In full: Really great day and the route was mostly fun. I say "mostly" with the exception of the power station run, which was 18 - 22 miles; just when you're starting to wonder whether it might be a good time to pack the whole thing in and buy a pipe, a tartain blanket and a nice little car. It was a bit disheartening to run the hardes part of the race through such dreary surroundings.
Moan over - the crowds were truly uplifting, the organisation superb - the website already lists a load of changes they're making next year - including the aforementioned power station bit. Great that they got extra trains to run as well.
All in all, superb. Looking forward to next year already. Date of review: April 28, 2010
