In short: Lessons learned from last years inaugural race In full: Many thanks for Purple Patch for organising a great h/m, they have taken onboard the feedback from the first M'head half last year.
Well marshalled, and cheerful crowds will have helped many to achieve a pb, although not for me alas, not enough training, just under 1hr 40min. Date of review: September 16, 2012

In short: Tough but beautiful race In full: Another well organised race in the Chiltern woodlands. The marshals were excellent, the only way the could have helped me more would have been to carry me up those two late hills .... ! Date of review: November 9, 2010

In short: Excellent organisation but .... In full: Really enjoyed this half, my 5th in the last six years. It just gets bigger and better. I thought the town centre tweak worked quite well.
A big thanks to the 1:40 pacer, he and my lucozade time strap got me home in just under my target time.
Generally the organisation was superb but my only complaint was that it took well over 10 minutes to get my bag from the 6000+ tent; I could have dome without that standing around and really stiffened up (I am mid 50s!!). There were no queues at the <6000 tent and a bit of common sense management would have had a few chaps move over to help out with whatever was wrong.
That aside, a super race, many thanks Reading. Date of review: March 23, 2010

In short: Puddle splashing!! In full: The predicted rain arrived bang on cue and turned this challenging race into a bit of a monster! Driving rain, strong winds, slippery leaves, and plenty of road wide puddles, ankle deep in places! So, great fun in the Chiltern hills!
As so many people have said already, a massive thanks to Marlow Striders and all the cheerful marshalls for their support in foul conditions.
The instant time board at the finish line is an excellent resource, always nice to see one's name and time up there.
Only grumble is the high price for instant coffee and £2 muffins at the food tent. Date of review: November 1, 2009

In short: Scenic run along the Thames and up into the Chilterns In full: Definitely pb potential as long as you can handle the hill, I knocked a minute off my previous best! The hill is a steady grind over about 1.5 miles and is not as tough as the neighbouring Marlow Half.
How to improve? A time graded start would help with the narrow lanes in the first three miles. Also I'd love to see a tech T in the goody bag, I'm sure a sponsor would subsidise this.
Organisation was fine, thanks to all who helped out. I'll definitely be back! Date of review: October 11, 2009

In short: Excellent London 10k In full: Congratulations to the organisers and their teams for an excellent event.
In my application I predicted a 44 min time so was surprised to find myself in the red a pen with the elites! In the end I came in a few seconds over 45 min, not helped by limited training over the last three weeks due to an injury.
To all those moaning about runners' over estimating their abilities, I have to say there really wasn't too much bunching or delays going down Birdcage Walk. There will always be an element of this in any big race but on the whole I think the whole thing went very smoothly. Date of review: May 26, 2009

In short: Excellent organisation, beautiful Chiltern hills In full: Really enjoyed this race, a big thanks to the supportive and helpful marshalls. Well organised, with an excellent results service.
The course was beautiful, running through the Chiltern beech woods, although the hills were tough, especially at mile 8. Despite that I managed a PB; in particular many runners must have managed as 6 minute mile on that last downhill section! Date of review: November 3, 2008
