In short: Worth travelling the distance for In full: Positives: A well organised and enjoyable race in a unique environment.
Negatives: If it is advertised as a half marathon they should make damn well sure that it's the correct distance and not a third of a mile short. Its not as if they didn't have the space to fit it in.
After running through water, sand and mud the least they could do was provide an area to change in and some washing facilites. After all it wasn't a cheap race to enter and a lot of people (including myself) came a long way to take part. Driving whilst caked in mud, sweat and salt wasn't very pleasant.
No medal.I know that there wasn't going to be a medal but,I still feel short changed considering the effort and cost to take part. It would have been a better momento than the cheap c*** in the goody bag that went straight in the bin.
Having said that the positives far outway the negatives, but a few small touches would make a good race excellent. Date of review: June 8, 2010
In short: Not enough drinks stations and a rubbish medal In full: Seriously lacks enough drinks stations, especially on a hot day, never mind the rationing of the water that is available. Learnt my lesson last year and avoided the car parking so a lot of aggravation was missed out on (was a much more pleasant experience overall). The cheap looking medal is a bit of a disappointment, especially having seen the womens 8k medal from the day before, which my wife took part in. I could complain about the lack of a goody bag, but it would be a bit churlish since the organisers do say that the entire entry fee goes to charity. Therefore, I would assume that they rely on sponsorship to cover costs. Perhaps they can get a mineral water supplier onboard next year, which would improve the drinks station problem no end.
