In short: Defines "Undulating" - good fun and just the right time after Xmas In full: Good fun this one, the route is undulating, covering 3 different loops that all end up back at the same pub. Nice to run on lanes rather than pavements. The hills kick in after mile 5. The start / finish was a bit further from HQ than I was expecting - it might be an idea to remind people to leave the hall 20 mins before the start in the future. Will certainly do it next year. In short: Glorious scenery, fairly flat, very well organised. In full: This was my first full marathon , having opted out of the pressure of a charity place for the FLM and it was cracking - beautiful scenery and superbly marshalled with loads of drink and sponge and even loos (no queues!) on the way. I was a littel wary about doing two laps but this really wasn't a problem as each one is a bit different. Nice start running round the town with lots of support and a good finish that comes to you "just round the corner" rather than you seeing it and having to run another mile round a field (pet hate). Only slight gripe is the last 6.2 miles up the disused railway line - for me, it was a bit monotonous and felt a bit of slog. I'd probably do this again as a ½. Date of review: April 27, 2009
In short: Congested at the start but fairly flat once you get going In full: Plus points - flattish course, well marshalled, showers, good finish area, nice canal section from 8 - 11 miles. Minus points - late start (for July), school field is too small for 1200 entrants, very congested in the narrow lanes at the start, 3-8 miles is safely off the road but you are running next to a dual carriageway which is dull and noisy Date of review: July 21, 2008
In short: Good race - nice and flat and only once round. In full: Only suggestions for next year would be to have some way of getting folks to line up in rough expected finish order at the start as it's tight for passing for the first 1km.
Minor gripe would be that the surface was a bit gritty and dusty - got in the eyes abit but I'd take that rather than rain!
