In short: Loved it! In full: We organised a 'Running friends' weekend away in Inverness to do this marathon. Flew in to Inverness, B&B for the weekend in the city, didnt need a car at all. Marathon organization was excellent from registration, pasta party, coaches and the race itself. Numbers were small (@2500) so overcrowding wasn't ever an issue. Course was tough but not hard as nails. Scenery fabulous as you get dropped off in the middle of nowhere and run back to the city. Lacking crowd support until you get to the city but other runners were friendly. If you're thinking about doing this then I have one tip - pick a coach with an on board toilet as there aren't enough toilets for girls at the race start! You should do this marathon at least once in your life! Date of review: October 20, 2012

In short: Fantastically tough, scenery magnificent In full: First marathon, first trail run. Loved every minute of it. Ran as a group of friends, no looking at watches or monitoring mile splits etc. Ran for the sheer fun of it. Plenty of water stops, toilets en route, gels at the water stops. Great marshals, well marked route, only niggle was the single file crop field but happy to move over for speedy runners. Lots of people walking up the hills so didn't feel out of my depth. Great for a first marathon. It was worth getting up the hills just to look at the views. Date of review: June 11, 2012

In short: Excellent charity race In full: Ran this one without my Garmin. At least I now know why my time was much worse than a normal 10k time. A simple mistake by the marshalls but I forgive them - its a charity race for a worthwhile cause. Will be back again next year. Medal is rubbish but I guess it means that more money goes direct to the charity - not a bad thing. Date of review: September 12, 2011

In short: Excellent First 1/2 marathon In full: Nervous at the start as this was my first 1/2M but lots of other first-timers around. I'd heard there were two nasty hills but to be honest the first was a piece of cake and I only struggled on the second because of an old injury. Not as tough as I was expecting. Fantastic scenery, excellent local support, good organisation, lots of toilets so no real queues, great water station cheering and all along the route. Want to do it again next year (injury free) to get a better time. Only problem was parking - we were directed to the caravan site car park but this was hideously tight, lacking in space etc but perhaps this was because the fields where cars would normally park were knee deep in water from the previous days rain! Otherwise very well organised. Date of review: November 6, 2008
