In short: Hard work, but worth it!! In full: This race was hard work from about mile 3 onwards but doesn't everyone love a challenge? It was well worth it for the beautiful views and camaraderie on route. It was excellently organised, very good value for money and one I'd consider doing again once I've forgotten how I felt Sunday afternoon :o) Date of review: September 17, 2012

In short: Well done Purple Patch In full: I was very impressed by how well this event was organised especially considering it was the first year. There was massive PB potential and I really enjoyed the route which was more scenic than not and the rain was more than welcome!! I wonder in future if the race would benefit from time seeding at the start as we were pretty much crammed in along the road so there wasn't a chance to get a fast start. In short: Excellent Race In full: I love this race, I've done it the last 4 years and will be back next year. The marshalling is always excellent, the atmosphere is great and the race is super for a PB. But there were a couple of niggles this year I wanted to bring to the attention of the organisers.... moving the start of the road is a good idea, but it was almost dangerous the way it then bottle necked out onto the road. No clock - what happened there? and I couldn't hear the man on the loud speaker - that might need rethinking too. Date of review: August 16, 2011

In short: Prettiest Race I'm aware of In full: Being a tow path race, don't expect a PB and do expect a little bottle necking at the kissing gates (this year miles 1-3). The scenery you pass on this race is just beautiful and for me made the race worth it despite the heat. The organisation for this race seemed very good apart from being unable to hear the man at the start and there being no where near enough toilets. I also thought that the marshals weren't very encouraging although they did their jobs well. I imagine i'll be back for another go :o) Date of review: July 25, 2011

In short: More like Toad Hills!!! In full: Can't fault the organisation or the marshelling - They were fantastic (as were the cakes after). The race itself was hard work, I'd read that there'd be hills but I had no idea how many and how steep. When I wasn't looking at my feet and wishing it was over the scenery was absolutely beautiful. I don't regret doing this race although my muscles hate me and like a true coward I won't be doing it again!!! Date of review: July 4, 2011

In short: When it finally started - Enjoyable!! In full: There were things I liked, and things I didn't. I didn't enjoy the queues of traffic I sat in to get to the race start or the lack of toilets and waiting at the start for over 20 minutes and not being able to hear why was frustrating. The race itself was great - well marshalled, frequent water stations and a buzzing atomosphere. I thought the route was a little repetitive and the goody bag (or lack of) disappointing but all this was made up by taking 5 minutes of my PB!! Date of review: June 14, 2010

In short: Nice Local Race In full: The support and marshalling for this course was fantastic, the hills though challenging were out of the way by the 5k mark; all in all this was a very enjoyable race. This is a small local event, with a 250(ish) field to match my only criticisms would be there's no clock and the start and finish aren't clear. Date of review: May 17, 2010

In short: A Fantastic Event In full: I was very impressed by the organisation that went into this event and the number of marshalls dotted around the course. OK, the scenery wasn't great for the first three miles but I enjoyed being cheered on when we looped through the crowd and it was nice to be able see the fastest runners from the back :o) Date of review: April 7, 2010

2010 Berkhamsted Half-Marathon

In short: Challenging In full: The hills made this a challenging race but the countryside made it worth the effort. Running with the traffics was a bit frightening and frustrating - It'd be nice if this could be avoided in future. I struggled to hear the chap on the loud-speaker at the start of the race and didn't enjoy the massive queue for the ladies loos. All in all a well organised race which i'd consider doing again. In short: That was hard work!!! In full: So I thought my legs were going to fall off, but the camaraderie was amazing, the event was well marshalled, the scenery was spectacular and all together this event was challenging and dare I say it, fun. The blessing by the local vicar was inspired and amusing. I'll definately make the effort to do a bit more hill training before tackling this event next year but I'll definately be back.
