In short: Relaxed, friendly, nice In full: It felt more uphill than downhill but I know that can't be true. Pleasant scenery throughout and the weather was perfect. Well organised and well marshalled. I was on target for the time I set myself but the last hill scuppered my chances. I bought two slices of cakes - really nice. Date of review: February 27, 2012
In short: Very fast but very bad! In full: Got a pb so should be happy. I'm certainly happy that I didn't encounter many of the problems other reviewers had. I was far enough to the front not to have to queue to finish - but it doesn't surprise me and not what you want. Good job it started late as I would have still been queueing for my chip. I was also lucky that I was near the start when it started completely out of the blue. Pretty sloppy that there were no roads closed. I had to slow for a car at one point. The point of a paid event is that you don't have to do this sort of thing. I could have run this route on my own, free of charge and had pretty much the same experience. Next time close the roads or limit the entry. Greedy gits!!
Having said that the route is excellent. Flat as a pancake although slightly uneven along the towpath. Pity it was wet underfoot otherwise we could have gone even faster.
Glad I did it but will need better organisation to be back. Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Much better than last year In full: Did the 10k like last year and it was much better starting on a different route the half marathon people. Hill was hard but the downhill bit was fun. Felt a bit sorry for the half-marathon people dodging around spectators in the town centre. That bit clearly need better organising. Well marshalled overall. Date of review: October 12, 2009
In short: Nice and hot In full: Wilted in the heat a bit towards the end, but an enjoyable, scenic run in a nice area. It helped that it wasn't too crowded. Closer car parking would have been nice. Date of review: May 27, 2009
In short: I found this race really tough. In full: My time felt but I suffered on those hills. Will need to go some hill training if I do this one again. Really lucky with the weather when you consider the week we've had. Nice, friendly atmosphere. Date of review: January 12, 2009
In short: Don't do the 10K! In full: I think if I had done the half then I would have enjoyed it. But, because of the crazy decision to start the 10k just after the half, we were tripping over the slower half marathon people nearly all the way round. This was especially bad in the narrow lanes section which was like playing frogger! This wasn't good for both sets of runners. Running along the river was better although I had to run entirely on the grass. Thanks to the two guys I used to pace me/snake through the traffic. I quite liked the medal (and the health club offer) but that's not enough to convince me to return. Date of review: October 15, 2008
In short: A good event.... In full: Nice feel to the start/finish with a band and a kid's race to get things going. A good mix of experienced and slower runners. Only my 3rd 10k and the first time I've encountered hills which was interesting. Pretty scenic and a nice villagey feel. Only gripe was the lack of water. I only got a plastic cup at 6K and spilt half of that. As it's local to me, I plan to return next year. Date of review: September 29, 2008
In short: Second ever 10K and the best so far. Friendly for beginners and it was nice not to be tripping over people walking. Nice and flat with not bad scenery - I was expecting worse having read the comments on this site. Good parking. Next time I'll bri Date of review: September 1, 2008
In short: In full: This event is saved by it's location. Running around westminster/embankment is pretty amazing for anyone who's lived in London. The drawbacks to this event are many - the overpricing (£30 for an empty goody bag); the 45 minute queue for the portaloos (completely chaotic); the lack of timing at the start and finish; the lack of distance markers; finally, the number of runners - there were far too many - I started pretty near the back and spent the entire race weaving through slow runners, it never seemed to thin out. I'll be back next year because of the novelty of running through central London but I'll try and start nearer the front and go the toilet beforehand! Date of review: July 7, 2008
