In short: Yet another excellent Great Run Event In full: This was rather down on entertainment this year. The start and finish were excellent but the middle seemed very quiet with both crowd support and music. Dulled the atmosphere slightly. However, still excellent for slower runners and beginners and really appreciated the shower. Date of review: September 5, 2012

In short: Very good potential but organisation could be improved In full: This is the second time I have done this race and both times with extreme weather conditions and both times I have felt more knocked about than I have done after completing other marathons. So I do not think this is really a very good pb course unless you are a fell runner. Organisation of hotels was a fiasco. First they could not get the days right and to say it was near the finish when it was two miles away was pushing it. Medal could have had year on it and there were no tee shirts at the finish on such a cold and windy day. Results should also be broken down into Gender and Age and Gender positions Date of review: May 26, 2011

In short: Scenic course with good support from locals and marshalls but lacked atmosphere In full: A race with a lot of potential but lacked atmosphere, particularly at the start. Disappointingly low turnout. Buses to the start were late which made things rushed and some toilets in the car park would have taken the strain off the start area. On the whole well organised and marshalled and a good distance for the marathon trainer. Date of review: March 21, 2011

2010 BUPA Great Yorkshire Run 10K

In short: Excellent atmosphere In full: Excellent race on the whole, with great atmosphere, good pb potential (pity about the hill at the end), good music and entertainment en route.
However, there seemed to be a shortage of medals and they had completely run out of large tee shirts when my husband finished the race - it was his first ever 10k race. This is unforgivable as the beginners are out there working longer and harder. Considering everyone in the race had prebooked and prepaid, how could this have happened? This marred what was otherwise an excellent and very well organised event. Date of review: September 6, 2010

In short: Very enjoyable race with pleasant scenery In full: Very pleasant atmosphere with friendly people and a very good mix of abilities. Very rugged terrain in places and I came a cropper and trashed any chance of getting a pb. I would like to thank all those other runners who sacrificed their times to help me when I fell, and the paramedics who pathced me up at the finish. Hope to come back next year and do a better job. In short: A challenging race but wonderful cameradery amongst both runners and locals In full: The hills, searing heat and exposed course made this race an achievement to finish, never mind a PB.
Having got through the finish line completely drained, the goodies at the end were presented in a haphazard way and I was short of a fruit and a tee shirt.
Well marshalled and excellent support from the locals en route. Many thanks for the hosepipes provided by the locals, they were a Godsend.
Not really a race for beginners, unless they have grown up in the Lake District. Date of review: June 28, 2010

In short: Lovely scenery but rather too hilly for a PB. In full: Hilliness, lack of atmosphere and roadside support made it a poor PB potential race. Marshalls seemed thin on the ground and I was rather confused at the very end which entrance to take to get to the finish. First drink station should have been nearer. Cups were a good idea as they do not cause as much hazard when discarded on roadside as bottles do.
Liked the half mile markers. Broke up the miles so that each one seemed shorter. Date of review: April 13, 2010

In short: Course more interesting than I expected it to be In full: Great atmosphere, particularly at the beginning. Course like Spaghetti Junction - runners could be seen for miles and in every direction - weird. Thought it would be boring but it was awesome.
Good PB potential if you get your strategy right, but could be disastrous if you get it wrong as you could run more than 13.1 miles if you take your eye off the ball.
Proper toilet facilities made a refreshing change from the usual portaloos. Date of review: March 16, 2010

In full: Lovely atmosphere. Liked the band at the beginning. Could have done with more of that along the first half of course. The second half, however, had plenty to offer -beautiful scenery which made me savour every minute of the race. Well organised with excellent marshalls. Chip time should be the official time, not the clock time. It took me five minutes to get to the start and I probably ran 13.2 miles instead of 13.1. Date of review: October 12, 2009

In full: Beautiful scenery and very well organised with excellent marshalling and markings. Very tough course and would not recommend this to beginners, but great for those who want to improve their running Date of review: August 17, 2009
