In short: Very enjoyable race with promise to be much greater In full: The Edinburgh Marathon shows much promise to be a great race .... As a London 2008 Marathon reject I was overjoyed to get a guaranteed entry to Edinburgh
What I enjoyed :-
Start Line Terrific Start location with atmosphere - Seemed to be more loos per person than London
Course Relatively easy course with PB potential except off road section at Gosforth Park....scenic but did more harm than good at 18 miles ??.. If you want a "fast marathon" keep it on the road
Feed Stations More than adequate
Runners Very friendly with club runners, runners and relay runners Was able to run shortly after the start - unlike London marathon where even at the front you cannot move for fancy dress, publicity runners or Jane Goodies... Sorry London but you are too heavy on PR/charity places against running and its getting worse by the year
Fireworks Saturday at 10.30PM (beside the Expo Centre)-Not part of the marathon but very impressive and worth a mention
Goody bag T-Shirt will be worn with pride and goody bag contents I have no real problem
Entry Price Expensive but on par with other city races
Medal Very nice
Wind You can't blame the organisers , missed the sub 3 hour finish time by a few mins but still delighted
Expo Designated area was too small with everthing crammed in.. Needs more careful planning ....possibly wrong location although was okay for me..
Finish Buses Enough said,
Baggage return This should be located close to the the finish line
St John Should be highly visable on route and able to treat running issues ... blisters etc
Ultimately I very much enjoyed the race and will be back 100% .. Thanks very much to the organisers
In short: Well organised multi terrain event + cakes & goody bag In full: The organisers have tried very hard to put on a special event...
Good course mark... and enjoyable course around Bewl Water + country lanes . Feed stations in the right places and excellent cakes the finish . Regretfully I missed the start by 5 mins due to a road closure and spent the race trying to catch up. And wearing road shoes in slippery conditions made it all the more difficult but fun. Only fell over once finishing in 1h 50'ish
For improvement next year ,would sugggest the prize giving needs a little more attention i.e one prize per individual + poss using a microphone.
A big thank you to the organisers - This is no doubt a difficult races to organise and they have certainly made it a special race Date of review: July 6, 2007
In short: A unique 15 mile multi terrain race consisting of beaches, rocks, more rocks ,cliffs and steps- tough race with outstanding scenery and good organisation - deserves greater numbers at the start line. Date of review: September 6, 2004
