In short: Not a good experience
In full: This was the worst race I've ever done. The parking situation was dreadful and stressful - we had to run at least 2km to start and then queue for toilets when race was due to start. Start delayed by 15 mins (or more) due to gridlock. Pretty much no atmosphere and I found the exposed, windy course hard going - not a pb course for me but others on here seem to disagree. I do agree go elsewhere if you want an enjoyable run!

In short: Uplifting, friendly and well organised post Christmas blast!
In full: I agree with previous rater, I woke up wondering how on earth I was going to run 10 miles feeling like the Christmas feasting had taken it's toll, waiting in the school gym before the race there were a lot of very fast looking club runners (mad souls like me! Once we had started though all my doubts disappeared and I had a fantastically enjoyable run. Afterwards felt great and had banished all sluggishness. I got a good time for me and it seemed from the results like there were a lot of very fast times, although I would say the course is definitely undulating with an unwelcome hill at the end! Will hope to be back next year, thanks to the organisers for putting the race on over the festive season!

In short: Wow - what a fantastic marathon!
In full: My first non-'big city' marathon and I'm definately a convert. Despite the weather trying its hardest to dampen spirits and a very tough course - relentless hills (or 'undulations') this was a fantastic race. The organisation was faultless, the people lovely and so friendly. Great pockets of support around the course (although found miles 13-18 tough). The two ladies at registration the day before the race were brilliant at calming my nerves. In fact everyone I came into contact with from Brathay was mavellous - the lady looking after valuables in the reception especially kind. The post race massage team were fantastic too. The 10 in 10 runners truly inspiring - look them up on the brathay website.. The family fun day at Brathay was great for my husband and children who sampled the marvellous range of food and even held owls! A tough course but an enormous high and if you're contemplating this race I'd say go for it!

In short: Scenic with challenging hills..cold at the start!
In full: Challenging course with hills throughout - two particularly tough ones. Nice downhill sections though (especially to finish) and lovely running through Ashridge. Quite a few impatient drivers on roads - felt a bit dodgy at times. Start I found very cold as there was no real shelter from the bitter wind. Other than that organisation good - great marshals, baggage store, finish line helpers and water stations. Thank you - glad I did it but looking forward to running when spring (and warmer temps) arrive!!!

In short: Loved it - always a good run!
In full: Really well organised, good facilities. Course scenic apart from couple of loops round houses at start. Glorious winter sun, friendly atmosphere and great marshals (thank you!). Love the momento too - much better than a t-shirt. I will be back!!

In short: Beautiful scenery, very friendly race
In full: Very 'un-competitive' run, refreshingly so - everyone very friendly. List of directions you are given at the start was a little daunting but there were plenty of Royston Runners to follow along the way! Great route, good vibe, lovely refreshments at end. An uplifting day out!
