In short: Greaton 10k run - fantastic January run In full: Excellent organisation, this was a no frills gem. The course was challenging, playful with an ascent of over 1km at about 6km in. It was a cold day, and at race hq it was useful,to find a place out of the wind. Friendly to all, the briefing per race was spot on. Marshals deserve loads of credit as it was not the warmest day. Overall, thanks to all for putting this on. Date of review: January 27, 2013

In short: Challenging 3 days but glad I did it In full: It's the first time I've done the Marathon Challenge, and it's a tough 3 days due mainly to lack of recovery time, and the conditions on the half marathon (hottest day of the year - 28 degrees) made it really hard work. I finished 22 minutes slower than my previous half marathon! Basically, it was a case of 5 miles on Friday which seemed reasonably quick, a tough 8.1 trail run on Saturday and then a countryside half marathon in the heat. I have unfinished business with this! In short: Liked it = quality 5k jaunt despite the weather In full: Set in a nice forest park. Good spirits maintained despite the rain, and it was a fun way to spend a Friday night. Very flat course so one for a PB. Date of review: June 24, 2011

In short: A genuinely fun 5k race In full: This is a really good Bank Holiday race - relaxed atmosphere, the course goes through some really pleasant surroundings, and it's a fantastic race for a beginner. Most of the runs I do are with club runners but it was fun to do a race which has a really good local feel, nobody taking it too seriously. It's not a particularly fast course, but pretty flat throughout. Woud do again. Date of review: May 2, 2011

In short: Fast course despite the hill In full: I've done this for the last 3 years - it gets better the more times you do it. The course is not flat by any means but is possible to get round quicker than you'd expect - basically a hill at around 6k but not that tough. The marshalls were really good - overall I really enjoy this run and will definitely be back again in future years Date of review: April 12, 2011

In short: Good 10 miler In full: It was great to go to a well signposted race...easy to park, well marshalled throughout. The course is one where good times can be achieved if you put in a bit of effort, but I couldn't get myself going at all. 10 mile races seem to bring out lots of club runners but all very well natured and the locals who cheered the runners on were very supportive. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try a 10 miler for the first time... Date of review: April 4, 2011

2011 Hardwick X-stream

In short: It's not called X-Stream for nothing! Waist deep water and lots of mud. In full: Lots of fun once you get used to not feeling your feet after the first stream crossing.
At times I ended up waiting to cross the streams but that's my fault for not running faster to them, and having now seen how it works I understand it's best to give a real dash to the first stream.
One of the most slippery races I've done due to the mud, and at times the aim is just to find a route that works.
I enjoyed the race - parking was difficult but only due to the weather conditions (the field for parking was only accessible to 4 by 4s for good reason) and the marshals were very friendly and helpful. This is definitely a race to try. The race momento is great - something entirely in keeping with the event.
Thanks to all who organised the race.

In short: Great place to run, great organisation In full: The friendliest race organising team of any race I've run. Congrats to the race director and the whole team. I was caught up in traffic on the way to the race, but when I managed to pick up my race number, the organisers found me a place to park asap, and looked after my kit so I made it to the start line on time. It's a brilliant course - tough but it's easier year 2 than year 1. I'll do this again without any doubt. Fantastic, fantastic race IMO. Date of review: October 17, 2010

In short: A race driven by a great cause In full: This is a good way to start the cross country races of the next few months. The whole purpose is to raise funds for Grove House - the fact that it's a good course is a bonus. Was horribly out of shape (4 mins slower than I ran 3 months ago), ran a dreadful time but overall glad I did it. Will support this again next year, and run it properly to do the event more justice than I did this year. Date of review: October 10, 2010

In short: Challenging half In full: Not what I was hoping for - took forever to get to the race and a long while to get out of the car park too at the end. The race is in a nice setting, but strangely it's not once that sticks in the mind as particularly picturesque, my memory is more of a race where for 13 miles you're following a train of people. The course itself is a good one,but I couldn't really hit a rhythm because I was constantly having to check my stride. Serves me right for only just making it on time but I left early enough to arrive a good 1.5 hours early. Good medal at the end. Date of review: September 26, 2010
