In short: fast flat race in lovely spring sunshine! In full: i'm not sure why people are getting so het up about the water. the cups were there with people filling up. i actually brought my own bottle because you don't want to have to wait every 3 miles to remove your thirst. sure the first drink stop was busy, but that's the early stage of the race. for a long race like this, people should take responsibility for their own hydration, rather than solely relying on the drinks stations. as for no start or finish signs. at the start people had started congregating at the middle of the green where the ambulances and other administrative stuff was. the finish was obvious too, when getting to the rype at the end of the race, all you had to do was look across the green and see all the people gathered there, as well as just following the person in front. i think it was a small friendly run, which coupled with the spring sunshine and village green atmosphere made for a good race overall. i'll do it again next year. In short: fab! In full: Enjoyed the day, organised well, from parking when turning up, getting the chip and also getting them off. as a first time chipper, was glad someone had wire cutters to remove it at the end! i did this race last year so knew there'd be a queue to get out of the car park.
overall, well run, a great route, especially the pub around the 3 km mark, and pb material if you're prepared for some up and down. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: great scenery, atmosphere, loved it! In full: people have said too few toilets, that's true. people peed in bushes, that'll upset the residents and tarnish what is a great race. that is my only niggle. this was my first half and only second race i'd done. the sun, and support from family, supporters, marshalls and locals made it a happy day. the run itself was good, straight, steady but did get hot. i'd brought my own drink and glad i did. the hill. oh yes. i'd read it here from previous years. even at the start of the race when you run down it, it doesn't quite register how tough it'll be. but when i just wanted to get to the finish line at the 11 mile mark and the hill appeared my heart sank. it was the sight of almost all the runners walking up it! i kept running, barely faster than a walker, glad that i did because it kept my routine going to the end. really chuffed as i got a time 36 seconds under my target time. phew. i'll be there next year....
