In short: Slippery when wet.
In full: School boy error. Wore roadies, should have wore trail shoes. Apart from that it was fun, well supported and a good way to end the year. Really felt for the man who ran into a lampost within the first mile. Nasty head wound but he soldiered on. I think the fact that this race is on the 23rd of December is the reason for it's success. Change that and some of the appeal would be lost.

In short: Fantastic
In full: Really enjoyed that today. Everything was perfect the mud, the course, the scenery, the organisation and the atmosphere. One of the true great trail marathons in the UK.

In short: Ok Really
In full: Nice race i suppose. Nothing offensive, very well organised and friendly.
The problem is there was no wow factor. The bus tranfers worked perfect, the marshalls were great and the route was fine but it's not one that will stay with me forever. Glad i run it but won't be rushing back next year.

In short: Muddy hell!
In full: Fantastic race with lots of added mud. Spent the best part of 9 hours in ankle deep water and mud. Great. I went over 3 or 4 times and was caked in it. The consolation of that was that my feet were so cold that I didn't feel any pain in them.
Also the wind at points was gale force and I couldn't run into it. Anyone who dare to open a gate on their own was flung over and required assistance to close it again.
All in all it was a great race and highly recommended. The organisation is great as is the route just glad I didn't have to come in in the dark.
Beware if you consider entering any of these events as they are as hard as nails but fun in a sick kinda way.

In short: Tough but fun
In full: Really enjoyed this race. Great route, well organised and hard as nails. I love a scenic route and this is one of the best especially the last 6 mile over the seven sisters. Also it's tough very tough. I was trying to save some energy for the Greensands mara the following day but no chance of that. Luckily for me Greensands wasn't too tough.

In short: Nice trail
In full: I did enjoy this race today the trails were fantastic with a great route not the toughest I've run but still fun. Nice t-shirt, hat, medal and the brekkie at the end was a nice touch. One major complaint was the cut off. Everyone went flat out at the start to ensure they made the cut off but surely it is more dangerous than to let people go off at a sensible pace. There were a few first time marathoners there today who may have got injured by going off too fast or totally blown their legs by mile 20 with no chance of finishing. Surely the organiser should just say before entry that if you haven't run a 5hr mara then don't enter. I ran about 4hr 20ish but still felt under pressure from the cut off that I made by 8mins. Even the stern marshall at half way referred to us 2hr+ turnarounders as stragglers.

In short: Forget your pb but what a race
In full: I have competed in many good ultras but this is a real highlight. The weather was red hot which for Oct 1st is unheard of but with that came crystal clear skies. The scenery on this event was the best i've experienced bar none. The course was so hard with killer climbs, technical trails and steep descents. The descent across the dragons back was a real treat and probably one of the best i've ever run.. If you get chance you must do this race. Bring on round 2.

In short: Very tough race!
In full: One of the toughest races I've run my legs are really rather sore after that. Great scenery, cheap as chips and all very friendly. Nice way to spend a sunday.

In short: More ups than downs..
In full: Fantastic race. Lovely selection of trails. Really well organised and marshalled. Bread pudding at the end was worth the entry fee alone.

In short: What a great day
In full: That was fun! Well organised, great route and a easy to navigate by way of a map book and directions even I didn't go wrong.
An absolute gem of an event and cheap as chips. Paid three times as much two weeks previous in another off road event which couldn't begin to compare to this. Anyone wishing to try an ultra should give this a go. No hills!
