In short: Good out and back course. In full: The outward stretch is slightly uphill but this is made up for with it being slightly downhill on the way back. Organisation was excellent and the competition between the serious runners should not put anybody else off because this is a good course with plenty of PB potential. Date of review: February 3, 2013

In short: A great marathon. In full: This was my first marathon and I'm glad I chose this one. The organisation and thought that has gone into this event cannot be faulted. From start to finish I was never in any doubt that this experience was being made as easy as possible for me. The course keeps the interest and the volunteers and spectators were amazing. What sums it all up is that the organiser (I think it was Andy?) was there at the end to shake hands and I too had my bag waiting for me at the baggage collection as I staggered towards them.
I will be back next year (especially now that I know about the undulations towards the end).
Thank you to all concerned. Date of review: October 8, 2012

In short: Hilly In full: Good mix of ups and downs make this a challenging and interesting course. The organisation and atmosphere are great and the shirt given out at the end is unique (one for history lovers). Will certainly be back next year. Date of review: February 12, 2012

In short: A well organised race with great atmoshpere In full: I would say undulating rather than flat with a couple of short uphil sections. Easily a PB possibility (with the right weather conditions). Will certainly be having another go at this race next year. Well done metres to Miles! Date of review: September 15, 2011

2011 Humber Bridge Half Marathon

In short: Tough in places but great scenery. In full: The bridge and the scenery are great but watch out for the hill after 9 miles as its much harder than it looks. The heat was the problem today and, as others have said, bottles of water would have been better than half filled cups. This is a challenging but enjoyable course.
Arriving and leaving was a bit of a problem but this can be solved by arriving earlier (1 hour before the start?) and having a picnic by the river before trying to leave.
I will be having another go at this course next year. Date of review: June 27, 2011

2011 Yorkshire 10K Newby Hall
 | | Overall score | | 80% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 60% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 100% | | Value | | 80% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: Challenging - but not too much! In full: The course has a good mix of fields, roads and country lanes. The ground was not too wet so slogging in the mud was never a problem and the changes in surface keeps the course interesting. Not that it needed to be more intersting as the scenery in places is great and the marshals were very enthusiastic. A real gem of a race. On note however, don't queue for the portaloos, go to the car park toilets by the Hall's entrance. Date of review: May 24, 2011
