In short: Great race ...... Better this year ..... but still a long way for Virgin to go
In full: I love this race, I've done it for each of the last 9 years. It is a national institution and has so many brilliant features. BUT.... since the virgin "mafia" got hold of it the quality has gone down dramatically. This year was a lot better that the last two, last year the tee shirt wasn't fit to let the dog sleep in. But, after two years of deterioration this year was a bit better, there's is a way to go though. Amuses me that VIRGIN MONEY are trying to make themselves attractive to new customers by clearly showing that, as an organisation, they cut corners on quality and increase charges to charity organisations. This is a special race and makes a fortune (120,000 X £37 ballot places alone, plus about 18000 charity places at £360 each at least!) so it has no need to cut costs anywhere.

In short: Flat and fast a "no frills" very basic race
In full: OK ..... I know what it's like to organise an event and then people make mindless comments because they just can't stop themselves from moaning. So.... THE REALLY GOOD BITS ..... Great Road closures (can't believe they got the sea front closed) Great Scenery "Breathtaking" especially at the bottom, well organised in advance and at the start. Nice medal and some of the supporters were great, especially the woman with the cow bell and the girl with the blue cheerleader pom poms,BRILLIANT! although support was a bit patchy. PB potential is fantastic, and, yes, since you ask, I did get one WHOOP WHOOP. Well done for all of that. THE MINOR BAD BITS....most of the marshals were miserable & on their phones texting (not all, but most)....The goodie bag had no thought at all. Water would have been nice in a sports cap bottle, personally I am not bothered about gels or sports drinks (re previous feedback)... The first aid people were rubbish, seriously this needs looking at, I stopped and asked for a plaster! (yes, just a plaster) and when they decided to break off from their "chit chat" they told me they didn't have any! This was an ambulance and paramedics for heavens sake! This was advertised as a one lap course...IT ISN'T... at the end of the first lap it was hard to watch the half marathon runners go to the finish, but, on the plus side at least you knew whatwas ahead of you on the second lap. All in all a good event which I would do again!

In short: Great Race .... Organisation gets worse every year
In full: I love the GNR, the city, the route, the people. You'll never get a PB ...too much traffic but a great atmosphere. What bothers me is that for such a large race the organisation at the start is terrible (finish is much better) Not enough toilets, baggage bus leaves too early, pens too small, shuttle buses to the start are expensive and take forever, Security guards are the worst I've seen (How can you try to close a pen at 10.30 and not expect a riot which results in the pen wall collapsing on the spectators ???) Come on GNR you make a fortune, spend some of it on the start please.

In short: The best running experience ever, everybody should do it at least once
In full: I love the London Marathon, I have done it for the last 9 years and raised about £100,000 for charity. BUT.... since Virgin took the sponsorship the race has gone down hill, compared to previous years the expo isn't as good, the goody bag at expo was terrible, the goody bag at the finish is nothing like it was and the tee shirt is a joke. I don't know if it's anything to do with Virgin, cutting costs generally or recession .... but it needs looking at. This is letting a fantastic race down.

In short: Hills, Hills and more bloody hills ....... GREAT ! Fantastic race with a personal touch
In full: Love this race, came into it this year (2nd attempt) again 3 weeks after London, my time at Brathay was better than my time at London. The car park was a lot better this year. This is a nice race organised by nice people. ......OMG I am actually considering the 10 in 10 next year, get the gun and shoot me quick (LOL)

In short: Nice Race, Nice People, hills !! well organised
In full: run by the local lions club, and the stewards are great (registration staff a bit unfriendly) great race, well worth the effort and nice scenery. I have done it for 2 years and would do it again. PB this year ! there are only two minor critisisms, firstly the tee shirts are only for pre registrations (I can see why but it should be made clear on the RW web site) and secondly the medal is a big let down, if you are doing it for the medal only, go to the fairground and win one on the grabber, it will be better quality. BUT a fantastic little race all round!!

In short: Nice people, Nice place...... A few changes needed for next year
In full: I ran the half marathon this time. The venue and organisation were good, friendly crowd and nice route. Nice Medal & TeeShirt. BUT only one water station (small half CUP of water) in the first 10.5 miles. It was a hot day and we had to stop to buy a bottle of water at the seaside kiosk !! If they get the water situation sorted this will be a good race for the future. I feel sorry for the marathon guys who must have been desperate for drinks.Could have had very bad consequences.
