In short: Fun on the hills In full: Thankyou Hogweed Trotters, marshalls, supporters and all who made this a great race. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our first time at this event. Hills, hills and more hills but we came away with big smiles on or faces knowing we had just run a very challenging course that had truly tested our fitness and resolve! We will be back next year :)

In short: A tough little half mara In full: For the first running of this event I thought it was excellent. It was a small event, with no frills but that said the organisation was spot on and all the marshal were supportive and had big smiles on their faces. Great pint glass memento from the sponser - Wadworth brewery of Devizes. The route was very scenic with a few hills to take the wind out of your sails. Wel done to all involved in the organisation.
If Wadworth did half marathons........ Date of review: October 21, 2012

In short: it was ok In full: Ok route, nice and flat Organisation seemed a bit hit and miss, only found the start and parking because we followed our sat nav - no signs! Leaving Cardiff was traffic chaos, again relyng on sat nav to get us out. For a big city half I thought it lacked atmosphere, at times on the route you cold have heard a pin drop - well the half dozen or so runners who were not wearing ipods could of! I have never seen so many ipod wearing zombie runners - whats the point in taking part if you are going shut yourself off from the event !?!?!
Overall it was an Ok event but I shant bother going back. Date of review: October 15, 2012

In short: Pricey - but very good In full: Yes it is an expensive event - £140 early bird 2 day challenger - but I enjoyed every mile even the very painful, slow ones heading into Gateshead. The marshals at the checkpoints and pitstops were excellent and very suppottive. Plenty of water, sweets, sandwichs, cake, etc. The route was clearly waymarked along its entire length and I had no problems following the markers. I thought the route itself was on the whole good, ok there was alot of road running but this was mainly on quiet country lanes and I never felt "exposed" to traffic. There were also a few tough offroad sections which sapped the energy from the legs and the hill at 33 miles certainly took the wind from my sail! 69 miles is a long way, even over 2 days and I think it would be difficult to improve the route as it is a point to point between 2 cities and inevitability roads have to be included. The finish over the millenium bridge was great, lots of clapping and cheering supporters and Sunday shoppers. Medal and goodie bag was ok but I didnt run 69 miles with the hope of getting great goodies at the end, I did it because it was hard and I wanted to test myself. This was my first experience of an ultra and it has left me wanting more, I just hope the next one I run will be as good. Date of review: June 27, 2012

In short: Expected more from this............... In full: Came away from this run thinking "Oh was that it?" Yes there is fantastic support all along the route - but I dont run just so I can hear lots of people telling Im doing great. Yes it is a "major" and has that "big race" atmosphere that many seem to crave. But peronally I thought the route to be on the whole - dull with the occasional intersting building in the latter miles. Perhaps I'm missing the point of this event and that I should run it just to hear the uninterupted support and forget that I'm running along boring urban streets. I'm glad I ran it just so I no longer have to listen to people waxy lyrical about what a fantastic marathon it is, because its not - I've run better. Date of review: April 24, 2012

2012 Bath Half-Marathon

In short: Marmite In full: This is a difficult race to rate, it is expensive, very expensive and the route is dull - 2 uninspiring laps but that said the crowds enroute are great and drag you along the ugly outskirts of Bath. Why do races that cost this much put a naff cotton t-shirt in the goodie bag which no-one wants, give us a tech-tee that we will actually wear. Races at a fraction of this price give out tech-tees! My second time running this (it fits well with my marathon schedule), but I'm not sure if I'll do it again due the cost, but then again I might as its easy to get too, (we used the train to get to Bath which was great, cheap and no parking issues to deal with) and the crowd support is fantastic! Perhaps this is my Marmite race, I'm just not sure if I love it or hate it! Date of review: March 12, 2012
