In short: Proper running! In full: People enter this race because of their love of running not because of their need for a PB. What that means is you get a great atmosphere, a huge sense of achievement and none of that silly competetive talk on the start line you get with some other races. I am one year away from completing my mug tree, it was the first race I ever did and I've not missed it since. The hills seem to find out your mood on the day, sometimes I've thought they're not that bad and other times they are worse than I remember - it felt like that this year! Still absolutely loved the battle, the last up hill was so rewarding knowing I had that crazy sprint down the hill on battered legs to the finish to collect my mug. Loved it. In short: Inspiring race and a good family day out. In full: I ran London 4 weeks ago in fancy dress, the only similarity between the two races was the distance. I enjoyed both but if you want a pressure free, go out and enjoy it kind of marathon then this is it. As others have said, the 10 in 10 runners are an ispiration. You dare not think you have aching legs when you see them and know they've completed the route 9 times in a row. The hills aren't too bad, one just after 7 miles is a bit cheeky and the last 0.2 miles are also a bit of a tease but it all makes for an interesting race and keeps the mind active. I highly recommend this run to anyone. Date of review: May 21, 2012

In short: Great run, well organised and very friendly In full: I did the short run (13 miles) and I really enjoyed the route. It was a glorious morning so the views were great and varied terrain made the run really interesting. The organisers and other runners were all very friendly. The only minor issue was the lack of water on the route. I think it was there but not exactly offered or made clear it was there. On the whole this event gets ***** rating from me. In short: Brilliant as always In full: What a great race this is, the organisation is great, the course is intersting, the atmosphere is excellent and the prizes are....er....different!
There are only 2 half marathons in the year that are on my door step. This one is better in every category apart from PB potential in my opinion. The atmosphere at this race is like no other I've been to, smiles everwhere despite everyone being soaked through before they'd even reached the start line. Although not really a beginners course as it's tough, the atmosphere more than makes this a great run for anyone to take on as their first race or half-marathon distance. You can then smash your PB somewhere else but it won't be as much fun!
Well done Andy and all involved. Date of review: July 17, 2011

In short: Tough but non-competetive, non-clubby and great flapjacks In full: I prefer this type of run rather than a Brass Monkey style clubby PB charged dull affair. Who cares who wins or what time you get. You know whether you've put the effort in or not and does it matter? Not a jot when you have a beautifully scenic route, friendly runners and organisers and flapjack! No t-shirt which was a bonus as I've got a drawer full of them that I don't want! Knowing that some of your entry fee goes to a good cause rather than a naff shirt or meadal is great. On the run you have to watch your footing in a few places and the wind in the face was a bit harsh on the cliff tops but it all made for a very satisfying finish with a warm reception from the organisers. Good job all involved and thank you. Date of review: May 17, 2011

In short: Love was in the air In full: For a road race it was scenic, challenging and super friendly. My second favourite road race after Yorkshire Wolds. If it was on a Saturday as well it would be hard to separate them. Thanks all that organise and help. Date of review: February 14, 2011

In short: Good atmosphere, good challenging course and not clubby at all! In full: I agree with others about getting in and out of the venue but they did delay the race for late comers and for moving cows off the path apparently. The marshals did a great job encouraging runners and the crowd at the end were good making you feel pretty good coming in. The best thing about these races is the atmosphere created by fellow runners, its really refreshing compared to how serious people can be at more clubby races. Date of review: November 4, 2010
