In short: Races of this size shouldn't be sharing roads with traffic In full: Very disappointed with the Leeds Half which was on my doorstep. Organisation at the start and finish here great and water stations were well manned and stocked. What really disappointed me were sections of the ring road where runners were coned off from traffic in the adjacent lane for about 2k - why a contraflow couldn't have been put in place is a mystery and the Kirkstall road were the amount of space allowed for runners made for approx 2/3 abreast at places. Again not ideal. For a council run race you would have thought the Kirkstall road would have been closed to traffic and the ringroad section would have been sorted. Date of review: May 8, 2011
In short: Flat & Quick In full: Nice flat track 10k with scenic bits at either end of an out and back course.
Given how many runners do this I was surprised at how easy the 'traffic' was. Also nice to see the flyers coming the other way as well. Easy enough to get in and out of Leeds without hassle so all in all a good day. Date of review: November 21, 2010
In short: Good organisation and a great buzz, a wonderful 'event' to be a part of. In full: Not a pb course unless you get a good starting pen, it is simply too busy and not a scenic course bar the Tyne Bridge itself and the last mile and a half when you see the sea.
Also would have preferred a technical t-shirt and it should really be detailed in the race park that there is a charge for the car parking at South Shields.
That said I thoroughly enjoyed my first GNR. The crowd was amazing and there was a sense of solidarity being amongst so many other runners. You also have to give the organisers tremendous credit for staging an event of this magnitude with such aplomb.
In short: Good organisation but where is my T-shirt! In full: Thought the organisation of the car parks and race village was very good. All water stations were well stocked and at good intervals. Finish was also well organised. Only real niggles on the organisation front are no T-shirt and lack of pen marshalling. Don't see the point of colour code bibs if it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference at the start.
Also the park sections did feel narrow at times for the number of runners.
However, all in all a well run good event that I would definitely do again. Date of review: September 12, 2010
In short: Great Scenery, Excellent support. Let down by carpark mayhem In full: The York 10k has picture postcard scenery and is a great course. Not much pb potential due to narrow winding course and number of runners, unless you get there early and near the front.
Absolute mayhem in the carparks on the wayout as the course runs through the carparks. This is lunacy.
That aside great race I would do again. Just get there early! Date of review: August 1, 2010
