In short: Crammed in like sardines!! In full: Poor signage at the start made it difficult to find baggae areas. We finally made the pens at 8.50 and couldn't hear what the event organisers were saying as music was blasting out of the speakers. The race started at aout 9.15 and for the first 7 miles we were crammed in like sardines. Whoever thought of sending 15k people through Bute park with narrow paths?
There were no initial mile markers to set your pace and the first one i saw was at 7 miles(which we reach at a poor time due to congestion) I spent the remainder of the time trying to overtake people and josttling with people!
As you reached the end of the race people thought they had reached the finish line as you could hear event organisers encouraging people - only to find you had to travel down a long road and double back to the finish! This made runners very dispondant!
After the event it was chaos! runners were bottle-necked into an area with no organisation to drop off timing chips and collect bags and people were trying to cross the road THROUGH the course!
On the whole a disappointing race -Cardiff had great weather and has some fantastic scenery but If it wants to develop this race then it really needs the structures in place to cover the basics! Date of review: October 18, 2010
