In short: How long does that hill go on for?! In full: Such a long steep climb from just over 1k into the race but the views from the top are spectacular. Then its down down, up up, and back down the hill for the best part of 2k I think? One of the most tough but beautiful races you can do. Loads of parking and the 15 minute walk to the start is a good warm up. Great organisation, lots of water and sponge stops in just the right places. Well done to all involved. In short: Tough, hilly but lovely support and organisation In full: Undulating course which seamed more up than down over two laps. Very good organisation with a wide start ensuring no congestion. When I did mange to look around there were some tranquil views across open farmland and woods. Apologies to the lady I apparently splashed mud onto towards the start of the race, I didn't realise I had and certainly didn't do it on purpose, I was trying to get through on tippy toe. As I prefer off road running I am not sure I would do this again, but that's just my preference for off road running, for those into tarmac its a good challenging friendly race. Well done Trentham running club. Date of review: July 15, 2012

In short: Tough but beautiful woodland and grass romp. Why not make a weekend of it? In full: Great challenging race for those who like their courses undulating. The course weaves its way up through bluebell strewn woodland before descending and climbing again through fields. The course then enters woodlands with tight switchbacks through the trees to make you dizzy and includes a small water jump! You then descend for the final 2k with only one more short sharp climb before a great fast downhill finish. The runners with dogs starting 5 minutes after the canine deficient runners is great fun, wow are they fast! Free camping all weekend, catering and toilets is very welcome. For those who like to mix it up there is also the 6 hour mountain bike event on the Sunday. This is the course that will be used for the 24 hour race later in the year. Such fun! In short: Hilly, windy, home made cake and a Christmas pudding. What's not to like? In full: This is the second year of running the Cheddleton Pudding run. Again the lovely people of Cheddleton turned out to support. The school was open to buy some very tasty home made cakes all in aid of cancer research. Was good to see so many people in the fun run before the main race. Although it must be one of the toughest fun runs, 2 miles around a hilly windy course. Well done to all who organised and entered the race. It is one of the most friendly races you can enter. In short: Up down up down etc etc In full: Wow, this is the second year of entering this event. Smooth organisation, good parking, lovely marshals with lots of little ones supporting and handing out the magnificent goody bags at the end. A very friendly race but tough. Managed to beat last years time by 6 minutes! Lots of rolling hills from the start, and some of the descents are quite steep. However I don't like flat or urban races so this course was great. Will be back again next year. Date of review: September 18, 2011

In short: Advertised as mostly cross country, I disagree but nice run all the same In full: Flat course which I would say is mostly on roads with a bit along the canal and then a field. Apart from one bridge over the canal the rest of the course is fast and flat. Well organised start and finish area, with nice quality medals, including the date (I always like one with the date on). Not too many runners so was plenty of space on the course even along the narrow canal path. The 5k fun run looked one of the best courses I have seen too. Great to see so many kids and parents running together. Well organised parking with no cuing to get on or off the site. Date of review: September 11, 2011

In short: Hard but great views and supper fast downhill finish In full: Blinkin ek, that was tough. Gun hill was tough on the legs, coming back down it tough on the core muscles. Views from the top over Jodrell Bank and the Roaches were beautiful. Only one slightly picky point, I did not realise, until after I had paid to park (£2.50 for 2 hours, bit expensive Severn Trent?), that you could get a free pass to put in your car to say you were part of the race, as did some other racers. Will be back next year after doing a bit more hill training. Nice T-shirt and plenty of small sizes left for a change.

In short: Wow, the people of Stoke-on-Trent are a hardy bunch In full: First time doing the Potters Arf and only my second half marathon. Was worried before with everyone telling me about the hills, but to be honest they weren't that bad. Yes the last hill is steep, but its not that long (honestly). The crowds were amazing, there were people all along the 13 mile route standing in the rain with tubs of sweets, drinks, ice pop's etc. fantastic support, Stoke-on-Trent should be very proud of itself. I thought the start was very well organised, walked down to the line and let loose almost as soon as you got there, so no standing around shivering for too long. I also did a PB by 8 minutes!! The fact that the course is undulating means lots of fast downhill sections to make your time up :o) I will be back next year. Date of review: June 13, 2011

In short: This is what running is all about, forget fast times and just enjoy In full: Wow, first time I have run this event and will be back next year to try and get under 1hour. I did a lot of walking but then so did everyone else around me. The scenery is just stunning with steep fields, woodland trains, a river crossing....times are irrelevant. Just enjoy. the cat and dog shared the trout afterwards. As a ruough guide my 10k PB is 47:38, my 9km time for this event was 1 hour 2 minutes, although I did forget my fell running shoes and ended up running in an 6 year old pair of walking shoes with no grips :o/ Date of review: June 4, 2011

In short: Beautiful day, lovely undulating course In full: First half marathon and if I decide to do another half next year it will be this one. It suited me perfectly being in the countryside over rolling hills rather than through towns and cities or on the flat. Despite being undulating the course seamed pretty fast to me. The drinks stations were at good locations and manned very well by the local scouts and brownies. Loads of marshals encouraging everyone on. the only downside was the T-shirts. Despite pre-ordering a small all that was left when I got there was medium. Why is it that almost every event I enter only has medium or large T-shirts? My other half is getting quite a collection tops despite not entering any races :o/ Date of review: May 1, 2011
