In short: Awesome hilly race in the Surrey hills In full: This race has moved to a new slightly shorter course this year but is still excellent and run by a friendly team of organisers.
The scenery is great.
Glad I did the 21k option even though it was hard on the second loop. The small field were the friendliest I have ever met at a race with everyone offering encouragement as you made your way round and a good post race atmosphere. The climbs are tough, but as everyone ends up walking them it is nothing that is not conquerable. I agree with the the other review that trail shoes are a must. The bountiful amounts of free brownies at the finish is a great touch. Date of review: July 7, 2014
In short: Awesome race with great scenery and a great atmosphere with the other runners In full: This is an awesome race. Can't believe more people don't do it. The scenery is superb on the Surrey hills with some great views as you run. The marshals were all really friendly and encouraging. They were also excellent when the route crossed a road. I can't fault the organisation really other than a really minor point with the arrows in one place, but that is more my fault than theirs - I should keep my eyes open. It is all off road and the hills are real beauties.
At the finish there were loads of excellent brownies, flapjacks, bananas, oranges and plenty of water. The friendliness of the organisers and other runners at the end was better than any other race that I have done. Also noted that everyone was cheering the competitors as they finish.
Ignore the PB potential of this race as the attraction of this race is the scenery. Also the odd distance of 24k should not put you off.
I will definitely be doing the next one. Date of review: July 6, 2013
In short: Wonderful morning out in the Surrey hills In full: This is one of my favourite races due to the stunning scenery. You will not get a PB because of the hills and the sand but you will have a wonderful time. The view from St Martha's is great. It was nice to see the Canix there as well, but maybe they could go earlier or after the runners. Date of review: September 14, 2012
