In short: Tougher than it looks In full: Was a warm run however despite this i managed to get under 55mins which was the plan, plenty of marshals but this is needed as the route is round lots of suburban streets which after a while all look the same. the 2 lap course doesn't help! considering the run is Harrogate there is no scenery! Nice atmosphere however with mixture of club and non club runners. Nice goody bag with Yorkshire tea bags....but why oh why is the boot bag exactly the same as last years??? please can we have a different colour or at least alternate with a t shirt? In short: A challenging course with the fairground rides for company; all for a good cause too! In full: The first year for this race and i hope it becomes a regular fixture as it has potential. Wasnt the greatest of scenery although you were able to run very close to The Ultimate rollercoaster. Started off in a field then onto some quarry roads which were tough underfoot, then onto country roads then into the theme park to finish in the field. A constant stream of little hills were tough on the legs. All finishers received a medal, bottle of water, thermos style mug, banana, energy sweets and a pen.
In short: Superb experience In full: This was a 'Run for All' so I dont understand why some have been critical about the walkers and slower runners. This was an event that brought together the more serious runners with those that were novices and those that have probably never put on a pair of trainers before entering the event. It was inspiring to so so so many people and as a resident of York I noticed that there were (and still are) more people out running and obviously training for this event.
the day itself did have its issues such as the late start but the atmosphere, superb marshalls, the smooth finish line, the bands and stalls at the end more than made up for the hiccup at the start. Date of review: September 4, 2009
In short: Great support from marshalls and good goodie bag makes this an overall fab race In full: Dont enter expecting to see much of the 'town centre' as in the name as you run 2 laps of the suburbs. however the support was good and the small area at the start of the race with the lucozade stalls were a nice touch. great goodie bag and even lots of photos available to look at online. great race and would enter again. In short: Challenging In full: Organisers need to look at the provision of toilets; 4 toilets is a ridiculous amount considering that the entry cost was not cheap. Disapointed by the non existant 'goody' bag at the end. However the opportunity to run over the Humber Bridge is a wonderful experience and whilst the course is tough and hilly it makes is a wonderful feeling to have completed. Nice mixture of charity runners and club runners. Date of review: June 15, 2009
In short: Tough underfoot but great to know your supporting a great charity In full: The course is i'd say 80% off road so this was tough going. A cheeky hill at about half way. No k markers which made it frustraing. A medal, drink of water and a kitkat greeted you at the end. Race results were displayed straight away with lots of prizes given; up to 3rd place in each age category were awarded. Local radio were there, bouncy castle for kids, plenty of toilets and parking making it a good and enjoyable run! Date of review: May 18, 2009
