In short: boggy
In full: new race for south wales which advertised as being boggy, there was definetly more bog than bryn!

very challenging course run on mixture of tarmac, footpaths, tow paths, open fields and woodland trails. some steepish hills and quick downhills with plenty of variety. trail or fell shoes a must!

excellent organisation, helpfull marshalls, warm showers and best of all tea and nice cake!

will definetly be back for some more pain next year.

In short: hills and mud
In full: first time for me at this race and was worth the effort. True multi terrain race with tarmac, grass, gravel, stones and not forgetting the mud!

Fast first mile then a steep 2nd mile up to the top then undulating off road for the next few miles where the fun begins, then steep descent to finish.

Excellent organisation, friendly marshalls and nice soup and tea afterwards. Would be a lovely race anytime of the year but the mud adds to the fun!

Would definetely recommend to anyone to try at least once.

In short: hot
In full: unseasonally warm weather made it a bit of a struggle today. Excellent figure of 8 course, flat as a pancake,3 water stops, friendly marshalls.

Definetely a pb course and one worth doing.

In short: tough but enjoyable
In full: an excellent race on a glorious day which is considerably tougher than it seems.

I thought the whole event was well run from the registration on saturday to the post race refreshments. Good tech t shirt and medal, well marshalled plenty of water and energy drinks at the stops.

The hills were tougher than i thought and in the heat made the second half of the race a bit harder than i wanted it to be. The terrain was quite tricky at some points and it did feel like a fell race at some points. The hardest part i found was the descent down to the last water stop and the run alongside the lake shore towards the end when tired legs did not want to lift over the tree stumps and rocks!

The scenery was stunning and was well worth the drive from south wales to see.

Overall a race i would highly recommend to try as long as you put the training in over hilly and varied terrain.

In short: short
In full: The reason it was short was because when runners turned left after coming off the river ely bridge the route should have turned left half way down marconi avenue and followed a path alongside the waterfront, before coming back onto penarth portway that leads to the barrage.

Nothing to do with the measuring of the course.

It will be interesting to see what the organisers say about why we did not run this particular section of the course!

In short: good but could be better
In full: my first marathon and happy with my time considering the heat!

good points:

1.pre race emails and details were excellent and easy to understand.

2.start of race was well marshalled and public toilets at end of london road was handy to find.

3.course was fast and good to see some scenery on the way (not including cockenzie power station!)

4.plenty of water and lucozade plus support was excellent from locals and kids handing out jelly babies.oranges and water.

5.excellent t shirt and medal

6.text messaging service was nice touch.

bad points:

1.did not like the detour off the coastal road for a mile to make up the distance.start of race could be moved possibly to avoid runners having to adjust their pace to run around a cone!

2.the gosford park stretch could have done with a water station plus the surface was tricky in some places.

3.the finish on the matting was a nightmare and should be moved to finishing on the road somewhere else.

4.start of race should be brought forward to between 7-9am to avoid running in hottest part of day.

5.the results would be better if running club names are mentioned.

overall i enjoyed my first marathon experience until i hit the wall at 22 miles!having previously ran the cardiff half marathon last year and seen the chaos of the baggage reclaim and transport issues post race i decided to stay in a campsite close to finish which was three quarter full of runners!i found this arrangement ideal as the walk back was good for my legs and the journey in to the start was easy as long as you gave yourself plenty of time.i agree with other people's comments about the reunion area access and lack of marshalls directing runners to the shuttle buses.if the organisers pay heed to everyone's constructive comments then there is no reason why this race shouldn't grow and grow.
