In short: Clockwork
In full: Considering the number of runners, the organisation is amazing. Yes the loos are a bit awful, but they're portaloos, they're always awful. My only bad point for this event was the 2+ hours waiting around at the start after being dropped off by the bus. But far mroe good points to out weight this. Seeing the Red Arrows fly over you while your running is awe inspiring. Great crowd support. The only thing stopping me doing it again is the time and distance from home and the expense of hotels etc. If it was in my area, I'd do it every year I think.

In short: Have the organiser bitten off more than they can chew with this race?
In full: It seems in trying to combine a half, a full and a relay in one day has left the marathon runners out from 10-5 in the hottest of the May heat. I was aiming for sub 5, but with feet problems and the heat I ended up coming home near 6 hours.

The crowd support was great in places, but very sparse in others.

The water stations were a little too far apart in the second half, though I did appreciate the help of a policeman in his car who'd obviously gathered up some fresh bottles and was driving past runners offering them out.

The start was excellent, the finish was the opposite. I didn't even attempt the bus, ended up sitting outside the pub for 2 hours before heading to the train station.

Very nice medal, wrong size t-shirt despite it being written on my number and asking explicitly for the correct size. Have placed a call in about this... not heard anything back yet...

Either scrap the half, or have it the day before, so marathoners can start earlier to avoid the heat.

Either re-route the course through more of Edinburgh, or don't call it the Edinburgh Marathon.

In short: Excellent again!
In full: Did this last year, the event has benefited from moving to the larger field opposite last years start. However, the crowded un-organised start will need to be changed for next year. Came to a stop shortly before a gate out onto the road. Perhaps start the race on the road like last year and then finish on the field??

Otherwise, brilliant race, challenging first half to the course, great atmosphere and very generous from Muller with goody bag and yoghurts. Great entertainment for waiting family & friends.

In short: Poor organisation badly let this race down!
In full: Good Points: A lovely course through Liverpool, really enjoyed running through the parks. Great marshall support.

Bad Points: Hellish wind for the last 4 miles, when the course was at its worst, can't be helped though. Poor goody bag, almost comical really - through in a mars bar or banana or something guys! Really poor organisation at the start, all roads closed so hell of a time getting anywhere near the start. Maps in the race pack need to clearly define several routes into the event car parks.

In short: Boring route and rubbish organisiation
In full: Pros:

Good PB potential
Good to see the RW pace team
Organises did a good job of gritting due to the snow

Cons:
Half the course was down near the coast line, with only a flat sea to stare at. Very boring
Water stations hopeless
Goody bag, by the time i finished, was literally just that, a bag.
Tacky medal
Rubbish non-tech t-shirt

Hilton Hotel obviously didn't want us there at the start or the end.
Commentator was a bit weird, some very random comments

Surely this course would be much better suited to a 10K???

In short: Walk back to the car was harder than the race! But what a good race it was!
In full: Lots of talk about how bad the parking situation was, the car parks advertised for use seemed to all be 25+ mins from the start. There was a lot more space on the fields inside the park for cars, but I'm not sure if the organisers would be allowed to use this. They'll need to come up with something though, because this race will get bigger every year.

Nice out and back, uphill first half, flat to downhill second. Excellent water stations with Lucozade at 8 and 11.5. OK goody bag, great shirt and medal, but still felt 29 quid was a bit pricey.

In short: Excellent for this beginner, and many more too!
In full: My first race and loved it. Very friendly atmoshpere. Set in a nice, easy to find park with plenty of parking. There is even a playground for the kids to amuse themselves on while you run. Great race for spectators too
