In short: Brillant In full: All the Marshalls/organisers were so brilliant and friendly. I did not realise that you could enter on the day, so I emailed the Race Director on Thursday night and got a response on Friday morning encouraging me to come. Whilst parts of the course is muddy and uneven it is nice and flat. All the children around the course were great especially the ones playing/singing music. Would definitely do this again. In short: Hot but well organised and great support! In full: Even though it was a horrible hot day (which normally I would love) , the race was well organised and all the volunteers were brilliant especially the volunteers at the water stations. It was great finishing in the stadium and what I personally liked was at the start there were loads of toilets and therefore no queues. So I could go to the toilet 10 mins before the start not worrying about queuing up etc. I have done London so I thought the support would not be that great but I was totally wrong and there was loads of support and people were really encouraging especially towards the end when I debating whether to stop and not finish but they keep me going. I am not going to do a marathon again but I would highly recommend this marathon to anyone wanted to do one
In short: Scenic route and friendly marshalls In full: well orgnised and friendly marshalls. It is a lovely route with two or three tough but short hills. The only thing is that it was slighlty difficult getting out of the airfield as there were loads of 20 mile runners going round. So if I did it next year I would probably wait until most of the runners had gone round the airfield again and back out. Date of review: March 4, 2013
In short: Well organised In full: A hilly course but well organised. All the marshalls are brillant and very helpful. There was not one that did not have a smile on their face. After the long run the refreshments provided are a welcome sight! Date of review: February 25, 2013
In short: Well organised race In full: The course is tough but the scenery is lovely. The organisation is excellent especially the way they organised the baggage tents. The volunteers/marshals were very pleasant and helpful. I would also like to give a very big thanks again to the young lad that very kindly took my chip off at the end of the race as I was so tired I could not bend down to take it off myself! In full: Even though you do not get an official time for this race, £5 is a bargin! The organisers are very friendly and the marshalls do a brillant job. You also get free drinks and cakes at the end! I would do this again as I would not run this fast if I was out on my own. Runner with others encourages you to push yourself harded! In short: Brillant, Hart and Hot!! In full: It was the toughest half marathon I have ever done; there were hills everywhere so not a PB course. However the organisation was brilliant and the local support from villagers was brilliant! Thanks to all those who provided hoses for us hot runners to run through! The support at the finish line was brilliant and the volunteers were excellent! Well done to everyone that finished this tough course in the extremely hot weather! Date of review: October 3, 2011
In short: Tough but enjoyable race In full: Friendly atmosphere but a tough course. This is the 4th year I have run it and it has not got any easier! The Marshalls are great and there are plenty of water stations. All abilities are welcomed.
My only complaints are I would have like a medal rather than a mug. Also there was not a real goody bag this year, previous years we got a t-shirt etc. Also at the start line when we were running through the field the finish line set up was in the way and we had to run around it! In short: a tough half In full: It was a tough but enjoyable half marathon. It was great that the last couple of miles were downhill! Would definately do again.
The only negative (which is small) is as the portable loos are all the same I think they should be more males and females as I ended up going in the male loos are there was hardly anyone waiting compared to the female loos. Date of review: March 7, 2011
In short: brillant and friendly In full: Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and the marshals did a great job cheering you around the course. Even the ladies on the cake counter and the BBQ were really nice. The route was tough but enjoyable.
The only downside which was entirely my fault, is I did not place myself correctly at the start and first part of the route there were two sections were it was single track and it was very difficult to overtake which I was deperate to do especially up the hill where I was nearly walking and so I had to run very fast the last 4km.
Nevertheless I would recommend this brillant race and will be back next year. Date of review: October 17, 2010
