In short: The Heartbreak 'more than' Half!
In full: Race briefing confirmed our fears that this was further than a half marathon, 14 miles to be exact. But that made it more for your money. Scenery was superb, hills were tough, medal was good, marshalls were excellent, even in the very cold rain. Loved being able to have a shower straight after the run, something seriously lacking in most of the events we normally partake in. Will definitely be back next year. Loved it!

In short: A bit up and down!
In full: A small turn out compared to the last few races i've done, but had a nice mix of abilities. Friendly organisers and runners made it a very enjoyable race. One more Marshall could have been helpful on the way back, as a few runners (including myself) went halfway back down the 2nd Zig Zag and had to come back up when we realised our mistake! Never mind, had a great day and a nice cuppa at the cafe' when we finished! Would love to come back next year, maybe even try the winter zig zag's!

In short: Should change the spelling to Hailing Island!
In full: Very fast and flat course, i can't remember one incline! Weather was terrible though, horizontal hail stones for, pretty much, 3 miles whilst i was running. Wind was strong too but i smashed my 10 mile PB by 7 minutes so very happy with the course.

The marshals really deserved most credit today. An outstanding effort from all of them! Great encouragement from all marshals and spectators even though they were getting pelted with wind, rain and hail. Everyone around me were saying what a grand job they did. Thanks Havant AC

In short: tough but fair!
In full: After reading alot of reviews i was getting worried about this one. Golds Hill came up very quickly (within the 1st mile) so we were pretty fresh and getting up there wasn't as hard as i expected, not to say it was easy though! It flattened out at the top then miles 2&3 were predominantly down hill, we knew we would pay for that! It wasn't long till we did pay - from then on every corner we turned seemed to present us with an up hill steep enough to make you say 'oh dear' or words to that effect! On reflection i think the amount of ups and downs were about even (if that makes sense?). Beautiful Dorset, once again didn't disappoint. Definately do it again.

In short: A Beast to run but a beauty to see!
In full: Loved the scenery and the country smells as you ran past the farms! If you want to go fast get to the front, there's lots of stoppages for gates etc. Mile 10, after making my way up the 2nd set of steps, was the hardest part for me. Amazing last 2 miles, a steady down hill with stunning views of Corfe Castle. I'll be back next year with the rest of our team - The Swamp Donkey's! Off to Gold's Hill next :)

In short: Hard work but amazing scenery
In full: Travelled from Basingstoke to do this run as i had great memories of Portland Bill. As i remembered, it was very hilly especially miles 7 - 10. It was very hot this year and it seemed there was only a breeze on the downhill part so running to and from the light house was particularly difficult for me, the sea views and Portland Bill made up for that however. Amazing view of Chesil beach at the top too. Plenty of stewards and water/sponge stations, very well organised. Embroidered towel was a nice change from a medal. Will definately do it again.

In full: Great weather, great scenery and a PB. Really sad to have finished it! Looking forward to 2010 already. You go up a big hill within the first mile but fairly flat after that.
