In full: Firstly to say that I had a reasonable run, but this is not a review reliant upon some PB afterglow.
I returned to this race because it has a near perfect combination of low key atmosphere with excellent organisation and attention to detail. A beautiful country lanes course with enough undulation to keep it interesting, very efficient and encouraging marshals, well run drinks stations, a surprising amount of support on the course and just an all pervading friendly feel. In full: Obvious danger of rating the race simply by reference to my own (PB) performance, but there is definitely great potential here for a fast race for everyone. I thought the course was really quite pleasant - there may be quite a lot of houses about, but also quite a green feel to it and it's mostly on footpaths (with not as many twists as some have made out). For my money I'd usually prefer that to a scenic road route with traffic...
Good support from most of the marshals and a friendly atmosphere, notwithstanding lots of club runners looking for personal bests!
I'm sure the first mile marker isn't in the right place (or I did the first mile in 7:30 and the second in under 6 minutes) but otherwise the organisation was fine. Although whilst the race itself is good value, £1.50 for a cup of tea at the race HQ is a bit steep? Date of review: December 7, 2009
