In short: Was fun could have been better In full: It was a great cause, so I'm glad I went and helped out with the fundraising. There were some lovely organisers and runners. Everyone was very good natured considering. We were there at 11, queued and although there was supposed to be a delay we started the 5k on time roughly in the first wave of runner. The course was really pleasant, the unmanned water station would have been fine if you didn't have to pour your own water. There were no km markers (and the organisers when quizzed by a club runner, said there were). The finish was poorly sign posted and the course was shorter than advertised, but had a nice down hill to the end! I did really enjoy the day and would do again. Thanks to all who organised for your time and effort and hopefully the feedback will go a long way to improving the run in the future.
Could have really done with a banana at the end. The dog tag medals were sweet though. Date of review: May 14, 2009
In short: 1st time fun runner here! In full: Had a blast. Arrive ridiculously early so froze my arse off. Lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed myself. Hills were tough, but downhills were fab. Great spectators too. Had no preconceptions but I still thought it was fantastic! Will do the half next year. Date of review: March 25, 2009
In short: lake midges ruined the day for me! In full: Was my first 5k. Atmosphere was lovely, easy to find, loads of parking etc. Race organisers were great, but lack of a proper start was a bit frustrating. Not entirely sure I like the gravel of the footpath, but that is just me and my wobbly ankles. Found it quite a frustrating run in a way. There was the potential to take loads of small shortcuts, I don't think anyone did, and there were no martials in those places. Signage was fine. No km markers which was a nightmare for pacing as you can see the finish coming in and out of closeness all the way round. I had NO idea how far I was to finishing. Chip timing was good, medal lovely, meal in pub after wasn't the best due to poor staffing, good nibbles after provided by the the race organisers.
Supportive (small) crowd.
My enormous critcism is that there were loads of midges round the lake. I got bitten on the face a number of times and ended up at A&E the next day with severe swelling that was affecting my breathing. I'd only in future run there in the winter because of the midges. Thanks for a great day though. Loved the tannoy music black sheep sports did :-) Date of review: March 25, 2009
