In short: Muddy and pretty In full: Very muddy after a downpour the day before so trail shoes proved very useful. A pretty route with a very steep uphill in the last mile!! A sign to point in the direction of the village hall once you drove into the village would have been useful on arrival however route marking throughout the race itself was good with one water stop at about half way. Not a dog friendly route due to the number of stiles along the way. Date of review: March 1, 2015
In short: Very pleasant route In full: I last did this route in 2009 and it was as pretty as I remembered. The hills didn't seem as big this time but that might have been as I was slower this year!! Very pleasant marshallers and smooth organisation. Water stops along route were well placed but the one at the finish was lost amongst spectators so I wandered around looking for it. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take my dog as it starts/finishes on a schools sports pitch and apparently last year some owners didn't pick up after their dogs (basics!!) so sadly those lazy people ruined it for others this year. I really enjoyed the race though and would definitely do it again!
In short: super organisation, pleasant route. In full: 2nd time doing this race. I remembered the long steady hill in the middle but it didn't seem as bad this time. Really well organised; well signed to the car parking, marshallers to cross the road, simple collection of numbers, great route marking and water stops throughout race, plenty of marshallers. Very well done! A pleasant route with good variation incline/decline/flat. Date of review: February 2, 2014
In short: Super fun race, great organisation! In full: First time I've done this race but it's now one if my favourites! Organisation was super and plenty of marshallers along the route so there was never any uncertainty of where you were going. Water stops were placed really well and the jelly babies half way around were very welcome! :-) I ran with my dog. We started at the back and moved along to find our place with similarly paced people. The first couple of miles were very slow, mainly due to the stonkingly huge hill, but also the route was very narrow from fairly near the start so there wasn't time for the pack to shake out before it narrowed; I found you couldn't overtake until about half way up the hill. Really fun race, the weather was perfect (could have been a little less windy) but definitely cool enough with a little shower of rain just before the end. Will definitely do it again! In short: Pleasant route, nice organisation. In full: good parking and toilets, well signposted route. Pleasant views on the way around and a nice mix of road and fields. Plenty of water stops which were well placed although I'd suggest the first one, after 1mile, isn't really necessary. A cheeky steep but short hill at about 5 miles and the last mile is all up hill but it's a manageable incline. Really enjoyed this race. GPS told me it was just over 8.2 miles. In short: TOUGH! but fun! In full: Two MASSIVE hills! The first two miles were nice and quick (bar a small backlog at the first gate with people passing through) and then you hit the first hill! It's steep but what makes it really tough is that it is never-ending! It seemed to go on for miles! The first water stop is just over the half way point at the bottom of the first hill and just before you start the second. The second hill wasn't as long but I think it was steeper. Final mile was fairly flat. GPS said total distance was 6.5 miles.
Marshallers were very friendly and it was nice that the village fair was at the start/finish which meant spectators had things to do whilst people were climbing the hills. Date of review: August 26, 2013
In short: Fun race, surprisingly quick In full: Good organisation for a race with reduced space surrounding the start/finish. Lots of marshallers were well positioned in areas of traffic which made passing potentially congested areas smooth during the race.
As mentioned in previous posts, parking is limited but going armed with that fact meant that I parked as soon as I found a spot on the way in and it was painless.
Admin/registration was very smooth and marshallers friendly.
The exercise Warm-up lady tried to conduct the routine in a car park full of parked cars which seemed somewhat odd given that there was a massive public park about 50m away which would have been much better suited to it. Date of review: August 25, 2013
In short: Beautiful run with a couple of challenging hills. In full: I thought this 12km race was excellent. The organisation was super and the scenery beautiful. Marshals were very friendly and the course was very well marked. There are two big steady hills which you need to pace yourself on as they go on for longer than you first think. My only criticism would be that the first water stop was far too early (we had bearly started running), it would have been much better served at the very top of the second hill. Overall though a great race! Date of review: April 22, 2013
In short: Beautiful run with cheeky hills thrown in. Good fun. In full: A very scenic route. well organised with three appropriately placed water stops. Marshallers were friendly and got a well deserved Easter egg at the end... always a bonus! I'd read the reviews beforehand which mentioned the hovis hill (gold hill) but this course did not go via that. Unsure as to whether previous people had reviewed against the wrong race or if the course route had been changed. Either way, it was a very pleasant Sunday morning! Date of review: April 14, 2013
