In short: My first Ultra, goal achieved, and recommended In full: Came into this race poorly prepared due to injury, but redefined goals, and they were achieved. A very good race, excellent atmosphere and organisation, and recommended. Some very scenic areas, and a few not so scenic, but no navigational issues. Date of review: May 21, 2012

2010 Cardiff Half Marathon
 | | Overall score | | 40% | | Would you do it again? | | No | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 80% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 20% | | Value | | 20% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: Too narrow, too crowded, Cardiff should do better In full: They have been trying to 'big' this race up, said to be a fast course. What they don't say is that it's too narrow, you'll never get into a set pace as you're path is constantly blocked by too many runners, and at the last minute you'll have to swerve to avoid the street furniture, running through the main shopping street isn't the best idea. Closed roads, but only half the road. Spectators crossing in front of you. People cutting corners, running off the paths or on pavements, and a few bottlenecks, just to slow you down. No starting pen discipline. A PA system that can't be heard over the sound the music being played. And to top it all, and the biggest sin of the lot, it was short.
Come on Cardiff, if you want to put on a world class event then commit to it fully, or don't bother. Date of review: October 18, 2010
