In short: Challenging course, good organisation
In full: Entered this one on the day. The registration was at the local leisure centre and seemed very efficient, paid and collected number without any hassles. The start was on the main high street which was a few minutes walk away. Another hall was open for last minute toilet visits/drinks etc. We set off for the race smack on time with Police escorts, a car leading the front runners and a sweeper at the back.

The course was has been changed from 12k to 10 mile this year. It is quite challenging (read hilly) in places and there were some areas in the second half where the uphills seemd to last a long time! As mentioned previously some of the road crossing relied on drivers seeing/obeying the marshals, but I didn't have any problems.

The finish was down a side road off the main high street and there was a man with a PA system to announce the runners coming it, although it was very quiet. It would have been nice to finish somewhere without pedestrians, traffic, but generally it was fine. A nice medal, banana and drink of water were provided. Once everyone had finished we headed over to the hall for prize giving and to collect results. There were also some spot prizes and the chance to buy some tea/cake :-).

In short: Well organised and friendly in a beautiful setting
In full: Organisation was excellent and marshals were friendly. Legs are still aching after the long climb to the top of hill and the faster descent.

There is a large playground/fort next to the start/finish which looked ideal for entertaining the kids whilst we were running. Unfortunately, entry to the playground is included in the cost of entry to the castle, so works out very expensive unless you are planning to visit the castle on the day.

In short: Challenging muddy course with great organisation
In full: Just to reiterate, it was very muddy! At least the rain stopped towards the end of the race....although by the second lap the steep muddy bits had got even more slippery!

Very enjoyable, but tough, race and seemed to be well organised. Only things I could think of for improvement were for the race starter to get a megaphone so everyone can hear race instructions and to reposition the water station (11km stop is not much use imo).

The cafe on the park near the finish was nice for some post race drinks/cake and a nice tap nearby for washing of a majority of the mud was particularly useful!

In short: Extremely well organised, great evening for runners and spectators!
In full: I decided to enter this event at the last minute to run with some friends, and it turned out to be a great decision. I can only reiterate what has been said in the reviews of previous years events, extremely well organised, superb marshalling and nice food/beer at the end! The guy on the PA system was particulalrly good in keeping everyone informed and entertained.

The event also has lots of things to keep the spectators (particularly the young ones) entertained. There is a playground about 100m from the start and there are two races for the slightly older kids (under 9's do 1 lap of the field and over 9's do "the stinger mile"). There is also BBQ/Massage Tent/Tea/Cakes/Raffle and a bar in the club house(for the older spectators ;-) ).

The course itself is hard work, but with great scenery at the top. There are lots of signs and marshalls (who were very supportive the whole way round). It was a bit muddy in places which was tricky on the way up and even worse on the way down! You definitely need your wits about you during the descents!

Highly recommended race.

In short: It's been said before, but I'll say it again - Hilly!
In full: Really enjoyable morning. A 10am start might have been preferable in the heat. Linking the event to the carnival is a great idea and gives the spectators something to do (and runners once finished). Good support at the finish and great organisation throughout the event.

The course has been described in detail below, but to summarise, the nasty hills are at the end of the loop (so you have to do this twice) and then at around 8km. The last one seems to go on forever. The trek back across the park is flat but seems to take longer than expected!

In short: Excellent scenery, some steep hills, good atmosphere
In full: I ran/walked this course with some friends and found the day very enjoyable. As indicated in the review below you can expect lots of slower moving traffic as the event is mainly geared for walkers. Everyone we met on route was very pleasant and we had a good few chats on the way round. Most of the walkers are only too happy to let you through if it is a particularly narrow section and you are walking/running quicker than them.

My only problem was the finish where we ended up in the car boot sale which is also run from the race course on a Sunday morning. We managed to weave our way through stalls to get to the finish, but it would have been nice to have a well marked route at this point.
