In short: Great organization, lovely, scenic route In full: The second time I've done this event. Like last time, the organization was flawless. I don't know how many marshalls there were on the course, but they seemed to be everywhere! A big thanks to them for their encouragement. The mostly flat route would normally be perfect for a good time, but a strong wind made it a bit tougher. Still, the lovely countryside and quiet roads make this a favourite. In short: Lovely countryside, excellent marshalls In full: An enjoyable race, lovely countryside and a pretty flat route. The marshalls were excellent, really encouraging, a big thank you to them. I had a few minor quibbles: charging for parking when it's already an expensive race (for a 10 miler) seems a bit excessive. There were lots of people wearing earphones, which caused one or two near misses with cars that I saw, but marshalls took no action. Not much point having a rule against them if you don't enforce it, is there. But overall, this is an excellent race. Date of review: February 16, 2014
In short: Fast route and great organization In full: This race is made for PBs (so long as the wind isn't too strong); I set a new pb for the third time at this event. It helps that you always get great support from the marshalls around the course. Thanks to them and all the organizers for a really great event. Date of review: December 8, 2013
In short: Flat and fairly flat route, but so-so organisation In full: The route is very flat, but there are a lot of narrow stretches, especially along the river, that will slow you down. The section through Christ Church Meadow was one big muddy puddle by the time I got there, not pleasant.
I was surprised by the lack of signage to the MINI car park and around the stadium. Goody bag is a bit miserly for an expensive race. What happened to the results. They were supposed to be 'live' but it's now early evening and they're not out yet.
On the positive side, though, the course was well marshalled. Big thanks to the people who stood out in the rain for hours and kept up the enthusiasm! Frequent water stations were also well staffed. It was good that after the first one the tops were taken off before handing them out. Quite fast to get through the finish area and get bags, which was just as well as we were all cold and wet. In short: Great local support and excellent organization In full: The two best things about this race are the great local support all the way around the race and the clockwork organization. It's also a nice, virtually traffic-free route. The marshalling was excellent; a big thank you to everyone involved in putting the race on. Date of review: June 30, 2013
In short: Running round the Grand Prix circuit is different! In full: Great organization and a friendly welcome. My first time running round the Grand Prix circuit. Wide, traffic free(!), flattish, so potentially very fast, although exposed to the wind. A big thank you to the marshalls and others involved in the organization, which was buttery-smooth. In short: Fast, flat and excellent organization. What more could you want! In full: I always look forward to this race, the the folk at Alchester didn't disappoint once again. Faultless organization and an army of enthusiastic marshalls make this one of the most enjoyable events of the year. And this is despite the dreaded headwinds on the airfield! In short: Very supportive marshals, great organization, flat route In full: The usual buttery smooth organization along with lots of very supportive marshals make for an excellent race. Date of review: November 25, 2012
In short: Well organised race, excellent marshals, could not be flatter! In full: The Great Run people know how to organise a big race like this, everything worked well. Great support around the course from the public, and from the excellent marshals, who didn't have a nice day for standing around. If you've done a race flatter than this it must have been on a track, but the last 2miles is exposed to the wind. One of my pet peeves is groups of people running slowly in a line across the road, and there was plenty of this, along with people walking inside 2 miles. Not sure what the organisers could do about that, though. The experience is spoiled a bit by the awful traffic jams getting away after the run. Date of review: October 29, 2012
